Breastfeeding offers so much more to the baby than just food. It’s warmth, comfort, and love and the skin to skin has so many benefits to the baby.

That being said, I personally did not want to bedshare with baby for my own sanity and need for sleep. Now my baby is a really good sleeper in her bassinet. In the beginning I offered the breast to her every two hours and she took a lot of contact naps on me skin to skin. At night when we needed sleep, it was helpful having a family member over who could hold the baby after feeding so that me and dad could sleep. Eventually we were able to get her to sleep in her own bassinet through use of a swaddle, sound machine, and paying attention to her sleep cues and ensuring there was enough sleep pressure built up with adequate length wake window. For sore nipples try expressing breastmilk and rubbing it on your nipples after feeding.

My EBF baby did that too. It’s so normal, you’re his only form of comfort right now. Eventually he’ll learn to soothe himself to sleep after eating instead of on the boob. Have you tried introducing a pacifier yet? That helped a lot after feedings for me! Also nipple balms and nipple salines for sore nipples! It’ll get easier mama
