Low milk supply

3 week pp- low milk supply. Have to top up baby 3 x a day. Is it possible to increase milk supply at this stage or too late? Anyone managed to do it?

I’m 6 weeks pp and going through the same. The advice I’ve been given is breast compressions while feeding and try to pump after every feed

It may be old wife's tales but probably won't hurt: My mom says to eat lactation friendly foods like nuts (especially almonds) and drink lots and lots of water.

Definitely not too late to increase, maybe look in to lactation consultants in your area, (a lot of health visitors are also consultants), are you pumping alongside feeding to help increase your supply? 🙂

Are you 100% sure your supply is too low? The less you top up the more your baby will want to be on the boob and the more your body will produce (but obviously you can’t cut out formula overnight; would need to be gradual).

Do you have a breastfeeding support group near you? They do home visits so they can see how you latch baby on, seeing if they’re drinking efficiently or not and help you wean baby off the 3x bottles so you don’t feel overwhelmed. But honestly, pumping early in the morning (6am ish), drinking loads of water and cutting out sugar can help increase milk

I’m 3 weeks pp and I had really low supply at 2 weeks pp and I had to stop pumping because my supply was that low nothing was coming out most I got was 1oz. The 1st week I was getting most 6oz. I ended up getting mastitis and got put on antibiotics and my supply was none existent. I got told to eat rich in fibre foods like green veg and nuts etc and massage the breast before and during pumping and pump every 2 hours for 10 minutes each breast and to do warm compresses before and after every pump. I hope you have a better journey than what I did, having to stop breastfeeding and go onto relying on formula to feed my baby killed me because it was always my dream to breastfeed but a lot of problems with my supply and getting him to latch prevented that from being possible. Sending all the good breastfeeding and pumping vibes your way.

i had the same, was getting about 1-2ounces all day
porridge every morning with a little bit of fenugreek powder, fenugreek seeds soaked overnight in water and then drink the water and camomile or moringa tea before bed and then lots and lots of water
has helped me and i’m managing to pump some more now as well as feed on the breast x

It’s not too late, but it’s also a very crucial period, so if you’d like to look in to potentially increasing your supply, time is def of the essence. Could you contact a local lactation consultant or perhaps speak to someone from La Leche League?

Continue to put baby to breast as often as you can (at least as often as baby is showing cues, if not more), and especially before you offer any supplement (even for a minute or 2).

Make sure you’re well hydrated, and eating a balanced diet. There’s some evidence to suggest oats + fennel seeds are good for lactation, so google lactation cookies for a recipe including them. Or you can try fennel tea.

Would you consider pumping?

It’s also an idea to consider checking baby for tongue tie or high palate, as well as checking your latch, positioning + posture. The lactation consultant, LLL, or midwife can help with this.

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.

Did I overreact?

I have had 3 c sections, recently had a wisdom teeth removal (4) to be exact and all my mom did was visit the day BEFORE and then she only sent 1 text. She has NEVER spent one full day with me and doesn’t acknowledge my achievements much. She just isn’t there when I need her to be. She claims she’s always working but she lives like 7 minutes away! she can come help with the kids so my husband can have break? we don’t ask her for much and she only sees the kids 1-2 a month. She also didn’t visit with my last c section. I told her that she should’ve gotten the abortion when she had the chance with me because why would you have me and neglect me emotionally? To not actually give me a present father in my life. I am very angry all she does is disappoint me. She only wants to show up for certain people in the family and I just want to grab her and shake her and ask her why can’t she be a good present mother?
