Like how many are they saying on a regular basis, not just as a one off?
Mine is saying about 10 really regularly but has been stuck at the same words for ages and I don't know how to help develop more

Same here, but I can tell his comprehension of what we're saying is improving day by day. Apparently they have a language explosion between 18-24 months.
He does seem to be adding "words" daily since we got to 18 months

I think at this age anything between 3-20 words is considered normal, my daughter is on about 23 just now! But she was a talker and not a walker, has only been walking for around 8 weeks.

About 2 when he’s in a good mood. Communicates in other ways like pointing and pulling at his highchair when he’s hungry etc. Was worried but nursery and health visitor aren’t concerned and just said keep speaking everything you do together and do flash card etc to encourage new words

Honestly depends on the day, some days he's forever talking and other days he's saying only about 5-8 xx

About 50 split in two languages as we’re a bilingual family. Today she said her first two word sentence “sky blue” 🥺 I died! ❤️ she’s not walking yet though so that explains while she’s so good at language stuff.

We are at around 25-30 now. X

Like 5 regular words id say - dada, tata, hiya, bye, mama & ball
Hes 18.5 months and this week in particular he is babbling constantly, new sounds, trying to repeat things- hoping thats a sign of more words to come x

Mine has one word - mama! He’s too busy running/climbing/hurling himself around to have time for talking!

Quite a lot of words he knows, like the colours, animals, up down big small, dinner…. Probably 50 words he understands.
Then if I’m talking to him he will usually repeat one of the words in my sentence.
But… he doesn’t walk yet!! 😜
I think all his learning has gone on talking rather than the mobility stuff xx

Mostly the OPOL approach, “one parent one language” so as I’m Italian native I speak Italian with her and my husband English as he’s a Brit. However when we’re in Italy with my family (and no one speaks or understands English) I speak English to her as well so she doesn’t lose it. The community language is always the dominant one in the long run. What usually happens is that they grow up understanding that second language really well but will respond in English. So it’s important to insist with the second language as they grow up… You’d be surprised how quickly they pick it up, I know of children who speak and understand Spanish just because they have a nanny who’s native and spends time with them while parents are at work.

He used to say a lot of words now he mostly babbles. He'll say cat consistently though and he'll say other words he knows occasionally
He has a really good understanding of words though

Very little, he makes up his own words but we speak polish and it’s a difficult language x

About 4, each baby is different and one day they'll just start chattering away!

My girl is 18 months and she doesn’t stop talking ! She’s always been a very very vocal baby 😂 I also talk maybe too much ? Ahaha. She says way over 60 words and in sentences now. It’s actually freaking me out because I am not a smart person at all in my opinion. What if I can’t keep up :/ ? It’s actually scaring me. But she’ll ask me a lot! She’ll say “ mummy ? “ I say “ yes “ she’ll reply “ look, birdy “ and point. This is most days.
I wanted to come on here and see if it was normal and I’m not sure it is D; she sings the words to most nursery rhymes. Which yes, means she’s screaming them in the middle of the night ! D;
Anyone know how to deal with voice level ? I’m trying to teach her “ inside voice “ but it is not happening. She’s so loud bless her. Even gives me a scare when she’ll randomly scream out D; !

It depends on a daily basis
We have dad/dada/daddy every day. Sometimes it’s a fight to say mum. She will look at me and say dad clear as day and I say no mum and she shakes her head and says dad!!
But she can say mum/mummy/mama,
Duck, cat, dog, ta ta, up, down, yes, look, see, eat, three, six.
She’s started to say hi, but not every day.
She also makes duck and cat noises too. Which is classed as words too.
So think we’re at 20 so far.
But every baby is so different.
