Whittington Planned C-section experience?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently in my second pregnancy and have chosen the Whittington Hospital, as I recently moved to Finchley. My first birth experience was at Homerton, which was very positive overall, even though it ended with an emergency C-section. This time, I have a planned C-section, but I’m particularly concerned about the scar, as I’ve been told they don’t use glue.

Has anyone had experience with this at Whittington and could share some advice?

I had mine at Whittington (also emergency with first planned with second) and they used proline stitches with me because I tend to get keloid scars which has made it a bit better than the scar I got previously with dissolvable stitches so you can request that. I had to fast beforehand which meant I got super faint after the surgery so bring snacks to eat straight after! The staff are good… until they decide you can go home. I got told I couldn’t go home at 5am the next days after I passed my second bowel of urine but then didn’t get discharged till 7pm and during that time no one came to check on me as they’d already decided I could go home, they didn’t even bring me lunch or dinner 😭 so try to keep yourself known!

Hi Lor, thank you for your reply and sharing your experience! So would you recommend this to have a planned C-section? I am now panicking because someone strongly recommends not to use that hospital as they had an awful experience with C-section and awful recovery.

Hi Alessia, I'm really keen to hear people's views on Whittington too. I've booked in at UCLH but then found out they transfer low risk and elective c sections to Whittington. You can refuse the transfer but then they won't give you a date for a section and might only give 24 hours notice. I'm sorry to hear your friend had a bad time there. Did she mention what in particular made her experience so awful? Caroline

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
