My husband has been offered an amazing opportunity with his work, which would include a massive pay raise and a bunch of perks. However, this would involve us moving two states away from everyone we know (almost 5 hours drive).
We are probably going to accept however they want us to move as soon as possible and we aren’t sure how we would be able to seeing as I am in the third trimester. I am 30 weeks pregnant and depending on exactly when they want us to move; I will either be heavily pregnant or have a newborn.
We don’t have hardly any family that could or would be willing to help us without us shelling out a hefty chunk of change (they would charge us per mile they would have to drive). Which if we are moving we will not have the extra funds.
We have a friend in the area that has offered to help us with moving things into the house once we get down there but he doesn’t have the means to come meet us here and help us move nor does he have a truck.
If we go before the baby comes that means finding a new OB that would be willing to take me on this late, which worries me. Even if we wait until after the baby I will have to find a new one anyway for my recovery care as well as a new pediatrician. It’s just a lot of stress on top of moving
I am excited for a chance to start over but I am terrified to do it with a newborn. Does anyone have any advice? Are we crazy for thinking of doing this?

I'd say if it will set your family up better for the future, definitely do it. Could you have people help you load/unload a Uhaul instead of hiring movers? Or post in local Facebook groups in both area and ask for her with loading and unloading in each place?
Also, coming from someone who lives in Texas, it is wild to hear moving 2 states away and the trip only being 5 hours in the same sentence. I drive 9 hours to visit family and I'm still in the same state!

I don’t think you’re crazy at all for thinking of doing this. Like you said, there are clearly pros to this move that aren’t “we just wanna move”. It’s your family and these choices are up to you! We moved in my 2nd trimester—no kids and we still don’t have a newborn—so it is different. But it was hard while I was pregnant, but it had its pros to doing it before a newborn That being said, there are also pros to moving when you’re not pregnant anymore and you have the baby. Like my husband and I always say, there are pros and cons to everything. There is never a perfectly ideal situation.
I don’t think you should be scared, BUT I get, especially as it seems like you may be a first time mom, why you would be nervous, so there’s absolutely no judgement. However, I think you all will be fine! That’s awesome that you’ll have a friend to help out.
Maybe in the mean time, you two could start putting aside some money for moving costs if you’re really concerned about that part ❤️

I would suggest using Taskrabbit for help moving. That is what my partner and I did because we moved to a third floor apartment and I was definitely not able to help much. We went with the cheapest person on there and it was really helpful and a lot less expensive than a moving company

I moved during pregnancy and it definitely made a huge difference paying for help for cleaning, throwing away/recycling items, and movers. It truly made it easier to focus on getting things packed and can unpack on own terms after move. It really saved us paying for help!
