Breastfeeding

When I breastfeed I just switch when she indicates she wants too. Sometimes it's just once each side sometimes twice!

You know if baby is happy (obviously as happy as a newborn can be) and doing consistent wet and dirty nappies. That is the best indication

And i personally didn't used to switch sides unless baby obviously wanted more. Feed on demand everytkme baby indicates they want the boob

With both of mine, they just chose to feed off 1 side a lot of the time. The biggest sign to me that they were full was an open hand. Although both would/will continue to feed as a comfort. And then being content and happy sleeping/playing etc.

My 1st was a contact napper etc and would feed at least every couple hours. My second has always fed more efficiently and can go 3-4 hours. But will also sleep for longer periods. Each baby is different :)

I knew he was getting enough with the many wet and dirty nappies and when he popped off one boob I offered him the other one and he would just turn his head away if he didn’t want anymore

Well mine usually sleeps while nursing or pulls out and proceeds to sleep if it takes more than 30mins i switch and your indication would be the nappies and weight

Consistent wet and dirty nappies. At least 5 wet nappies a day I was always told by my midwife 👍🏻 and gaining weight in a way that allows them to roughly follow their own percentile line (they DO NOT need to climb percentiles).

I don’t breastfeed anymore but I’d offer both every feed as my son dropped below the 0.4th centile after I was only giving one and switching every feed x

Indication of enough breast milk is through the amount of wet and dirty nappies baby is having.

Get in touch with a lactation consultant! It saved my journey many times. One thing you can do is feel the soft spot on their head. As long as it’s not sunken, it means they’re hydrated! Good luck
