Step daughter wants to sleep in my bed and use my bathroom and I just need some space that’s mine. Hubby says not allowing her in our bedroom won’t fly but we will sure as shit see about that. At this point he’s lucky I even let him sleep in the bed with me.
We don’t have her too often maybe half the week or less and she’s 5 in a couple weeks.
She has a private bedroom and bathroom that is hers only. She is very vocal that she demands privacy. I told her as long as she’s using my space she can’t have any. Because MY stuff is there and I’m going to get it when I need it. She needs to start using the space we set up for her.
The more hubby pushes back on letting me have what’s mine the less I want to do with either of them.
I cannot sleep in clothes anymore and I’m not letting a 5 year old sleep in my bed and cause me more discomfort than I already have going on with my own body. I need this little space that I have for me. Honestly I was done with this codependency before pregnancy but the way I feel about it has amplified since my pregnancy began 2 months ago. Most kids I’ve cared for are sleeping comfortably in their own beds by age 3. She has always had her own room.
I flipped out and said “im sacrificing my once perfect body to have this baby for you the least you can do is give me the space I’m asking for. Or I will find someone else to meet my needs” …..
I know very dramatic but that was the push he needed to get on board, he’s not happy about it. But I am finally getting my needs met. He wants me to be the bad guy so damnit I will be the bad guy if it means I get peace and comfort in my own house.
If she’s old enough to know she needs privacy she’s old enough to sleep in her own room. That’s not too much to ask is it ? Can I not have the next 7 months to myself. The baby will be here soon enough and we will have it in our bedroom and I’ll be up all night feeding and changing anyway. I just want to get good sleep because I know I won’t get any when that happens. Am I the asshole for needing her to get tf away from me and my space when it’s time to relax?

I feel like that's fair of you to say. Can you reiterate that everyone deserves privacy? I know it seems like you might've tried in a way by saying that if she's taking away your privacy, she doesn't get any either. Is there like an object lesson about privacy that a kid's show teaches, maybe like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood or something?

Can you get a bathroom door lock that needs a key? 😅 Or is that too extra?

you are not wrong. stand your ground. dad should fall asleep with her in her bed then leave once she’s settled in.

Maybe unpopular opinion, but you’re wrong. She’s barely going to be 5. Are you going to be so harsh with your own child?

Girl, she is old enough. I had this discussion with my husband because we were having to pull our mattress off of our bed and sleep in our living room when my step daughter was over because she would not sleep in her room at our house because she slept in the bed with her mama at her mass house and she was 6 years old. It got old fast. Finally I told him he could sleep in the living room with her and I was sleeping in our bed. It was then he made her sleep in her room. Our son has been sleeping in his own room since he was 11 months old.
