My baby boy was 6 weeks old yesterday however he was born premature at 35+6, the midwife’s & health visitors told us that he should be feeding every 3hrs between 60ml-80ml but he just seems a little more hungrier at times so sometimes he doesn’t even last the full 3hrs it could be an hour an half or even 2 hours which we don’t mind doing but the health professionals explained about over feeding, but I’ve got friends who’s babies were taking more than 60ml - 80ml every three hours when their babies were my sons age but the difference is they are full term babies not premature, has anybody else been thru this or could give me advice if we should up his milk
Thanks!☺️

My little One was born 36+2 and was on small amounts early doors but as he’s getting hungrier we’ve been upping the milk and now 8 weeks and having 160ml each feed sometimes more i was worried we were over feeding when we kept upping and maybe only going 2 hours but midwives told me they will spit up
Anything they don’t want 😁
We always found everyone we had to add more at the end we would just make the extra ounce each feed and he would have it or not have it x

yeah I think we’re going to gradually keep upping it now as the weeks go but I feel reassured knowing that someone else similar to my experience upped theirs, he is currently weighing 7lbs and only 6 weeks old now so I think it may still be too early to be letting him go long stretches throughout the night but do you know when he would maybe be ready for that? X

After the first week I started feeding on demand for me personally I think they will always telly you when they are hungry.. everyone is different this is my first too and he is now nearly 11lb and 6lb at birth.. but he was always going 2-3hours then would have a cluster feed and a growth spurt one week and then now he still is only about 3hours in the day but slightly longer at night .. everyone’s advice to me was always do what you think is right ☺️
How much did he weigh when he was born? Xx

You really can’t overfeed a baby. Trust their hunger cues.

My son was born at 33+3 weighing 4lbs. Spent a month in the NICU and started at 60-90ml a feed. Within a month of coming home (he was then 40wks when we cane home, so 1 month adjusted) he was eating 90-160ml a feed. Now he's 7 months old and will regularly eat 5-6oz bottles.

Hey Abbie. I think it’s different for formula and breast on this but everyone I have seen for breastfeeding support has said you can’t over feed a breastfed baby. So if you are breastfeeding, it doesn’t matter 🥰

My baby was born at 39+1 so not premature but I have always been told my baby should not be finishing a bottle, she will be 3 weeks tomorrow and is already on a 150 ml bottle (leaving about 30 mls), every baby is different but I’d say up the bottle until you get to the stage where your baby is leaving between 10-30 mls of the bottle

So I am EBF. But my girl was born at 35+1 she is 10 weeks now. As soon as I got home from hospital (day 5 as she lost 11% of body weight) I was feeding on demand but no more than 3 hours. Once she was back at birth weight (12 days old) I was told I could go up to 4 hours. Again only did that for a couple of weeks Until I knew she was gaining weight (had more regular weight checks as she was preemie) and then I just let her feed on demand and she has done some 5.5 hour stretches.
You should increase the amount of formula as they get older. And from what I can see, they seem to be measuring her as per her birth age (but adjusting back when needed) so I would treat the amount of formula as per his birth age eg 6 weeks.

My twins were born at 36 weeks on the dot and were low birth weight at 4lbs, they’re 5 weeks now and take 120ml feeds every 3 hours in the day, and one feed at night so they have 7 feeds over 24 hours. It is exclusively breast milk in their bottles so not sure if that changes how much they can or should have.
