Any advice for 5+ hour car trips for a 1 year old who, unlike all other babies, does not nap well in the car? He sleeps great in his crib (seriously, like 11 hour nights and naps for 2+ hours!) but we’re lucky to make it past 30 minutes in the car. He does not love toys that make a bunch of noise and his comfort jam, the full Tarzan soundtrack, probably isn’t going to hold him over for five hours!

I learned with mine is to catch her during her sleep cycle! If I’m leaving in the afternoon I’ll keep her up just right until I know she’ll fall asleep then transfer to the car! Or if you’re doing an early morning drive put him in the car while he’s still sleeping!

Give yourself lots of time and pack lots of easy snacks (teether crackers and freeze dried yogurt puffs are always a hit with my little one). I also like to keep some toys just in the diaper bag so that they don’t lose their allure from being seen every day. They help keep her occupied better on car rides

White noise, black window cover, leave 30-45 mind before nap. Diff toy every 20 mins when awake. Fidget box on amazon. Comes with like 10 toys

Not helpful but my husband and I travel a lot from AZ to CA (5hr drive) and tried doing the road trip with the baby multiple times only for them to end in total, absolute total, disaster every time. At 12 months he still cannot stand the car let alone nap in it. SO now I fly with baby to and from and husband drives the car alone 😅 that way we still have our car and all our things and one plane ticket is much cheaper.. it also works out that he drops us off at the airport early in the am and by the time we land he’s already there to pick us up! Anyway I hope you don’t have to do this and the car naps work out just thought I’d give another option because I know how hard it can get 😆

We’ve taken our 9 month on a 5 hour trip for the fourth weekend and we had fun. He slept a lot during the ride but kept us awake during the night 🥲but we’ve gave him hour breaks by stopping at coffee shops or parks.
We are going on a two week road trip with a 1 year old. Wish us luck!
