You can always say you don’t want one. Ultimately they aren’t very pleasant, mostly uncomfortable. I wouldn’t use the word painful, it’s not long lasting though. Just breath through it and it’s over quick.

Bless you xx it sounds anxious, I would feel the same! Honestly I didn't feel it at all but it might be because my water broke when I was 31 weeks 6 days pregnant so either it's not sensitive at all when water breaks or it really is completely fine or I was on adrenaline..

Best of luck with your last days of pregnancy xx

You can always deny one. My water broke at 36w4 and they did one in triage, It didnt hurt, but I was also 0cm dilated...

It didn’t hurt for me. But cervical check during labor hurts like crazy. That’s why I personally mostly decline them. You don’t have to get one. Knowing how dilated you are doesn’t mean much besides the cervical checks come with risks too.

I them done for all 3 labors, with my first child it was very painful I would say worst then then the labor cramps but with my second it wasn’t bad and with third it wasn’t painful it felt like a Pap smear 😂

They don’t hurt. Might slightly be uncomfortable but they don’t hurt

It depends on the person and pregnancy. My first they never hurt but my second they were horrible because my cervix was behind baby’s head. I had to be checked a ton and every time was worse than the last

I don't have an answer as to if they hurt or not since I chose not to have any throughout my pregnancy and even labor. I imagine they could be quite uncomfortable though.

That said it's your body and you don't have to agree to anything you don't feel comfortable and confident in. As a doula I like to remind people that a cervical exam only gathers information in real time and cannot predict progress/change. As a first time pregnancy at 39 weeks I wouldn't expect any cervical change to be present unless you're in labor/contracting.

Ask questions — What is the reason for the cervical exam? What are the benefits vs risks? What is going to be done with any information gathered? What if you don't get the exam or wait until you're in labor?

I was curious and wanted one first pregnancy even though my OB didn't offer them. It hurt!
My new OB offered it but said it was up to me this pregnancy too and again I was curious- it didn't hurt

Honestly it all depends on who does it, I had them done while my water was leaking. I refused student nurses/physicians because I did once it they cause me a lot of discomfort. After that, it was personnel that had more experience that did it, and it wasn't bad for me

Avatar

It didn’t seem that much more uncomfortable than a pap smear for me.

Avatar

I declined the cervix check every-time it was offered because it seemed unnecessary to me. I only agreed to it once I was in labor and admitted to the hospital. You don’t have to do it if you’re uncomfortable (unless there’s a medical issue).

I’ve had 2 babies and have gotten lots of cervical checks (I’m just always curious so I let them anytime they offer 😅) and none of them have hurt

I found that it depends on the provider. I had some midwives where I didn’t even notice it and one or two where I was like WTF get out of me! Immediately

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
