Shaving babies hair to help it grow back thicker?!

So before you decide to judge and give hate. If you don’t agree or are going to be horrible keep it moving…

Anyways… as part of a religious practice we removed baby’s hair in first week of life. Baby girl is now 3 months and whilst she was born with ALOT of hair it’s not grown back anywhere near as thick and is taking ages. I don’t agree with doing it again but everyone keeps telling me to shave again as it’s winter and she’ll be wearing hats anyway. I really want her to have longer hair for her birthday but it’s grown back thin. I’ve been covering her with headbands/ bows so she looks more girly 😝.

Has anyone noticed a difference from shaving their babies hair multiple times or is it just a cultural myth?

As a pervious hair stylist, it is a myth that shaving makes hair grow back thicker. Shaving doesn’t affect what’s under your skin, the hair follicles which is based on genetics/your health. (It’s the illusion, shaving the wispy uneven hair then it will now grow all at the same time and length to then seem “thicker”) So I would personally leave it be but to each their own

Please, do not shave her head again. My family did it to me because my grandparents said it would grow back stronger. It did not, and I spent my first years of life being mistaken for a boy…

It’s a thing in Indonesia too. But I didn’t shave her head because she moves too much so I don’t want to accidentally hurt her. It’s more like a myth because shaving can make the hair stick up more or look coarser but it doesn’t make it actually thicker

It took my baby a long time for her hair to grow too. Also at 3 months they start balding from the rolling and in their sleep. It will grow back

Just give it time but you can also use cotton bed sheets to reduce friction to prevent balding. And you can use rosemary water or oil

No .

It takes months for them to grow that hair the first time in the womb, and as they grow their follicles change shape and mature so the texture and even colour of the hair can alter. Personally I wouldn't do it, the only reason it might grow back different is because it was already going to...

Cultural myth, it all comes down to genetics x

I think babies lose a lot of hair whether we help them out or not 😄 I've heard it can hormonal (like our hair loss postpartum) and because of friction. Once they're not laying down so much it should grow in easier. My first took maybe a year to have a full head of hair and now at 2 it's like sheeps wool 😂 just give it time x

Girl I just responded to the title, I wasn't disrespectful 🤔 take it easy

Ps scientific info here that I know- baby loses all the birth hair by month 3 and 4 and starts getting new growth that their hair is meant to be. My baby looked bald till like 13 months we got the suggestion as well but we love his natural hair. It all depends on genetics and I think it will thicken when the baby gets older. Lots of docs have made reels saying shaving does nothing so 100000% a cultural myth

Shaving doesnt help it grow back thicker so shaving it again wouldn't help your situation.

Babies also tend to lose all the hair they had at birth (not all obviously but its very common). Mine was fully bald at 6 months old and by a year she needs a bang trim and clips.

Some babies are bald until theyre 2. Its just genetics. Cant do anything to make it grow faster just enjoy your bald baby.

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Is anyone else's 4 month old randomly screeching now? I'm not sure what to do and she's been doing this for the past two days. She's usually a quiet happy baby so im not sure why she's doing this now. Aby suggestions?

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.

Breastfeeding

Does it ever feel better? The actual feeding part of it is going really well and baby boy is growing so well. I’m struggling with how my boobs feel day to day - it’s really getting me down most days. The let downs make me feel awful and sounds silly but, I am also really missing not wearing a bra! 9 weeks postpartum and still getting fairly engorged, even with comfort pumping.

Any advice or just shared stories would help. I’m so torn between carrying on because I enjoy the feeding side of it or switching to formula.

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?
