Help! Breast milk question.

Hello! I’m totally new to breastfeeding and I’m not sure what to do. I had my first glass of wine today since giving birth (it’s been 4 weeks). I had only 1 glass at 6pm. I’ve heard the whole pump and dump, but I’ve also heard it’s safe to pump 3 hours from drink.

I don’t want to give my baby alcohol buy also don’t want to throw away good milk.

Help! What do I do??

Do not pump & dump! It’s safe after 2hrs to pump if you were drinking. If you want you can wait an additional 2hrs or what I do sometimes is wait & pump in the middle of the night the only thing is you might leak some. But I would also recommend you ordering the alcohol strips on Amazon. They work really well.

On the rare occasion that I would drink, I would pump right before going out or having the drink so then I could wait a bit longer to make sure it was safe so I didn't feel so full and/or leak

Don’t pump and dump. Pump and save the milk and put it in a bath. But yeah they say it’s safe after two hours. And what Toni said, if you’re going to have an occasional glass of wine, get the test strips to give you peace of mind.

And I commend yall that were able to crave alcohol after birth. I had my first glass of wine a few months ago after 3 years and I felt like a new drinker. Haven’t had one since lol

My midwife told me that the amount of alcohol that makes it through to the milk is like if you threw the alcohol into a swimming pool. She told me not to worry 👍

Pump and dump is more for comfort. Like if you have a few drinks so aren’t gonna feed baby from the boob till tomorrow, you may need to release the boob pressure to be able to sleep.

You don’t need to pump and dump.
You don’t need to wait to pump.
Breastmilk takes on such a negligible amount of alcohol (like a percentage of way your blood alcohol level is)
One glass of wine won’t impact your milk at all. Nor would two, or three, or four. The greater risk is now being drunk and not being capacitated to care for baby.

I only pumped and dumped when I was binge drinking at a bachelorette party and I didn’t even need it for the baby, she had plenty at home.
One glass of wine is totally fine.

I’ve had three babies and all different OBGYN’s with them. All 3 of those OBGYN’s told me “if you can find the baby you can feed the baby”

If you are really concerned, there are alcohol test strips you can get for breastmilk.

You don’t need to dump especially if it’s just one glass. I’ll only pump and dump if I have multiple cocktails with hard liquor. But supposedly even that is okay. I just do it to be safe.

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.
