Thanksgiving issues

I had a baby 2 weeks ago. I have another daughter 13 months old. My husband wants to take the 13 month old to his families house for Thanksgiving (20+ people) and leaving me home with our 2 week old. I don’t want him taking her there. 1. He’s leaving me home witha 2 week old and taking my other daughter away from me on a holiday. 2. I don’t want the 2 week old going because of germs and risks of her getting sick and I don’t want him and my other daughter around all those people and bringing germs home. What are your thoughts?

I agree with you. He could bring germs home. Tell him if he could FaceTime his family instead & that it’s very difficult to take care of a sick baby. You guys could have a pasta thanksgiving.

They’re your babies so your choice mama! Keep your babies home with you and always trust your gut he’ll get over it

If the concern is the germs/illness, I would suggest having them both wash hands and change clothes before they touch you to baby - that would be the first thing they do when they make it home.

If you are wanting to be accompanied on thanksgiving day, then maybe tell him that you don’t want to spend the day separately and you want to spend it as a family. Your goal is to keep baby safe. See what he says?

My newborn is 3 weeks old, and my oldest is 3 years old. He is still going to preschool, and we have done small outings with baby (mostly outdoors and far from people). We usually travel for Thanksgiving and choose not to do so this year. We are spending it just us and my mom since she’s in town helping us. We will travel from Christmas and NYE with the newborn.

Either way, it’s not your normal, and you guys need to decide what you feel most comfortable with doing.

Selfish af. I also have 2 babies, one is 10 months one is 2 days. Of course we are all staying home and not doing anything for thanksgiving even though we have families houses we could go to also. Shouldn’t even be a question for him. UNLESS it is to give you a break from the other baby so you can relax, a divide and conquer situation, I could understand that. But if you feel overwhelmed by yourself with the 2 week old then absolutely not.

💯 agree with you on this one. I would advise to let the husband know that due to cold and flu season and with RSV going around that you fear the 13 month old could catch something and bring home to the 2 week old. That you’re also worried you may need him asap while with the little one. Maybe this way he will reconsider. Unfortunately men need explanations and to be given direction sometimes :)

so originally i wanted us to stay home for the same reasons but my aunt really wants us to come so we found a way around it. we’re only going for a couple hours just to show face and eat. our plan is, we’ll keep the baby isolated in the guest room the whole time away from everyone else, me and hubby will wear masks around the family as we already do in our home when we’re around the baby anyway, let alone while out in public/near others. my 3yo is in daycare so inevitably she is exposed to all kinds of germs (and just got over the flu) which is why all of us wear masks at home, including our 3yo. the last thing we need is me AND hubby getting sick, or her getting baby sick.

i’ll probably hang in the room w/ her most of time, popping out occasionally. but IF my family members want to visit the room to see her they will be obligated to wear a mask, wash their hands, one person at a time. i’ll limit holds, & no kissing. they have no choice but to respect the rules if they want us there

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Saying NO to buying toys etc

5 year old is getting really envious of others. He is obsessed with items that other kids have at school. I am pestered daily to buy these things in a different style when we already have 3 others. I have seen parents just buying stuff their kid likes which I don't necessarily agree with even when i can afford it. How do you deal with it?

Daycare?

Thoughts on daycare?? Truly, I am SCARED to be leaving my kid for daycare. I literally do not trust anyone, not even family (they haven’t given me a reason it’s just trust issues on my end, you never know). He’s turning 3 and I’ve been a sahm the whole time but tbh my man doesn’t make enough for us to move out somewhere more calm . We live in a ‘not so safe’ area in LA and I’m just not used to living here so I just want us to give my son a better life and in order to speed up the process I would have to work.. I do lashes at home and I’d be open to take new clients so I wouldn’t have to look for work but I’m just scared to lose my license 😭

Tablet for kids

Alright don’t need any negative Nancy’s telling me not to get my 2yo a tablet so if that’s what your gunna do please don’t participate in my poll.

We’re about to move cross country 3+ day trip and my 2yo and 9m hate the car I’m talking scream their heads off till they are out of their seats. We’ve already changed car seats and it didn’t help so I’d like to at least have one entertained and sit next to baby and try and distract her or put her to sleep. Our new car has tvs but since they are rear faced my 2yo can’t see it.

Debating getting her a tablet or dvd player right now on long car rides I end up giving her my phone because I get so overwhelmed sitting in between both of them screaming and crying.

And yes I do bring different toys I bring snacks I play songs try to distract her other ways but for the sake of not losing my mind on this move I think this is best.

-A very overwhelmed and anxious to move mama 😓

Separation Anxiety

My baby is nearly 6 months old and has just entered the separation anxiety stage… this evening I was trying to cook dinner whilst my husband was with the baby and he was just crying every time he couldn’t see me, with full blown hysterical sobbing, and as soon as he saw me again he started giggling and smiling. Any tips on how to stop this? And how long might this phase last?
My husband felt pretty disheartened and upset 😢
