Owlet? Or not to owlet?

Personal opinions on the owlet dream socks… or other baby monitor/ devices!

I’ve seen mixed reviews and would class myself an as anxious person in general… I want something that will keep my mind at ease but at the same time not keep me on edge constantly.
Thanks mammies 💙

We have an owlet. I personally feel it helped me to sleep at night and once you know their ‘normal’ readings, you can see when they’re poorly too. I really rate it xx

I would (and did / will) owlet!

I waited until my little boy was born to buy a monitor in the end, didn’t know what type I’d want. I initially thought I’d really want the owlet but after he was here I think it would have definitely kept me on edge personally and I realised I didn’t need it. We had the intention that if we felt we couldn’t settle without it we’d just go and buy it to make us feel better. Currently 34 weeks pregnant with our second and tbh we have the same mindset again, if for some reason we’re very worried/anxious we’ll get it but right now I’m confident we don’t need it. They seem great though and whatever helps you settle as a first time parent is 100% worth it!

I literally just brought this haha. I hear great things and I’m sure it will benefit whoever. Heard many cases where it saved babies lives

I love my owlet cam, definitely worth the splurge. I didn't use a sock, personally I didn't see the point with a healthy baby but to each their own

Owlet and love to dream swaddles best things I ever bought.

💯 no. I think most trendy baby products just feed on mother’s anxiety by fear mongering you to think your baby needs it to be safe. Personally the idea of my baby having a device strapped to them that emits low level radiation for HOURS at a time seems so unnecessary and unsafe… we didn’t use them with our daughter and wouldn’t intend to unless my child had a diagnosed medical condition and our pediatrician recommended some type of monitoring at night - but if that were they case, they’d probably offer a type of medical grade equipment

I really wanted one but chose not to get one 1 because its really expensive and 2 i felt like i wouldve worried even more so xx

Oh I got the one that goes under the mattress. Baby sense I think it was called

Avatar

I decided not to get an owlet because of my anxiety. I just knew I would be constantly monitoring the data

I have not and wouldn’t get one. It does not prevent against SIDS, there can be false alarms and give a false sense of security. I just find it unnecessary and personally it would give me one more thing to worry about constantly monitoring my babies heart and oxygen. I think k the best thing you can do is follow safe sleep practices and keep your baby close

Avatar

I chose not to. I have also have a lot of anxiety but it would just fuel it not help it. It doesn't prevent against SIDS as others have mentioned. Didn't seem worth it to me.

With my twins who were my first no, but after losing a baby in the second trimester I had so much anxiety and when my rainbow girl came along the sock brought me so much comfort. I don't think id sleep if I didn't have the sock for reassurance. I also used the bigger size on my 3 year old with severe asthma and it saved her life her o2 was at 79 and when she got to the hospital her labs showed her blood oxygen at 49.5% (normal range is over 95) so I can't imagine what could have happened

Avatar

Yes maybe a bit of fear behind it but when it comes to your babies you can never be too careful

Hi Shona,

I was like you in the beginning, undecided.. but after a few weeks of constantly waking to check he was ok, I decide to get the owlet, obviously it doesn’t prevent SIDS, but it sure helped my anxiety and I now sleep better, I would rather a false alarm go off and check nothing is wrong than no alarm and miss something (my personal preference) mine only tends to go off when I’m changing him and he is wriggling around loads whilst doing so🤣 X

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Hi ya'll

Is anyone else's 4 month old randomly screeching now? I'm not sure what to do and she's been doing this for the past two days. She's usually a quiet happy baby so im not sure why she's doing this now. Aby suggestions?

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.

Did I overreact?

I have had 3 c sections, recently had a wisdom teeth removal (4) to be exact and all my mom did was visit the day BEFORE and then she only sent 1 text. She has NEVER spent one full day with me and doesn’t acknowledge my achievements much. She just isn’t there when I need her to be. She claims she’s always working but she lives like 7 minutes away! she can come help with the kids so my husband can have break? we don’t ask her for much and she only sees the kids 1-2 a month. She also didn’t visit with my last c section. I told her that she should’ve gotten the abortion when she had the chance with me because why would you have me and neglect me emotionally? To not actually give me a present father in my life. I am very angry all she does is disappoint me. She only wants to show up for certain people in the family and I just want to grab her and shake her and ask her why can’t she be a good present mother?
