I’ve been feeling really lonely lately. I do have three friends, but they’re all separate friendships. They’re good people, I just find myself wishing they’d check in on me more — especially when they know I’m not well. Two of them are single and busy with their own lives and friend groups. The other is a fellow mammy friend who struggles with social anxiety, so plans often end up being cancelled.
I don’t drink, mainly because I want to be fully present for my children, but I feel like that means I get invited to things less. People seem to assume I won’t enjoy myself, which I find really hurtful. My husband has also wondered whether having kids now might play a part — maybe even a bit of jealousy — and that’s hard to sit with.
I’m an introvert, but I still enjoy getting out and connecting. I’d be more than happy with something simple like a coffee or a walk in the park, with or without my kids. Sometimes I worry that people see me as boring or feel they’ve just moved on from me.
Sorry for the rant — I just wanted to ask, does anyone else ever feel like this?

I am similar to you. I have 3 main friends, but have to see them separately as they don't get on. 1 of them has 2 children with special needs, so I give her a lot more leaway when I don't see her for a few months. One is in a relationship, which I suspect has some sort of control in it, so I don't see her very often. My other friend still lives with her parents, so relies on them to get around. It is always me that messages them first most of the time, which can get really annoying.
