Our boy has been refusing his nap at his usual nap time now for 6ish weeks and every day his nap is getting later and later. Hes not wanting it till 3 ish but then of course stays up late as he isnt ready for bed. We've tried no nap and he just cant do it and is just an emotional mess after 4pm until bed. Ideally I want to keep the nap as we have a 4month old and I want to keep the hour downtime.
Not sure what im asking, those that have dropped the nap how long until they got used to it and could last the day? And those that haven't any tips for keeping the nap longer?

I find the more active he is in the morning the more tired he gets for his nap, he actually asks to go for a nap on those days 😂 so either try get him to the park or outdoors running around or if we're inside I'll get him running up and down front room or make obstacle course etc. I also don't give anything sugary with lunch unless I want him to stay awake longer 😂

Hey Sarah, our daughters still on her 1 nap a day and she’s 2 years almost 7 months but some days she’ll totally skip napping all together and then pass out at around 4ish no matter how hard we try to keep her up on those days so we let her have a cat nap and wake her up after 15 mins. That way she’ll still be tired by around 8pm and will go to bed at around 8:30/9 at the latest. Not ideal I know but I do think this is a weird transition time where some toddlers do start to get ready for dropping a nap? I also agree with Danielle - on mornings we wake her up at 6:30/7am and she has a morning outdoors or is active she’ll nap by about 1pm

My 2yr 7month old still has an hour at 12ish ..
I just keep her super active in the morning where possible. And we always put her down until she’s slept- no matter how long it takes. She stays in her bed happily.

It took us a couple of weeks of dealing with a difficult time 4-7pm but she is a lot better now however some days she does nap but it’s mainly in the car or pram if had a busy morning

Nap has moved to after 3.30 but bed is still around 8.30 or 9 or later unfortunately, we haven't had an after lunch nap for a long time but at childcare they still put them down at 12pm

A couple of weeks. Keep afternoons quiet. I found an earlier dinner time helped and then supper before bed if there was a big gap. Once they catch up on overnight sleep they will get used to it. Don't recommend any afternoon drives if they can be avoided. Unless you have someone to sit beside them and keep them awake and happy.

We still have quiet time where we get ready for a nap as usual, and she goes into her cot. Sometimes she naps and sometimes she doesn’t, but if not she’s in her cot for at least an hour and a half resting or playing quietly with her toys. Definitely not ready to drop it entirely yet as on days with no nap she gets overtired and wakes between 45/90 mins after bedtime really upset.

I have a 11month old too, we have a group car nap for an hour around midday only way my toddler will nap is in the car. I get myself a coffee and do an hour of life admin 😂 and enjoy the quiet x

My girl dropped her naps just before turning 2, she wakes 7/8 am and goes to bed about 6. She rarely has a nap and when we try she just stays up and refuses.
I’d say a good month or 2 it took for her to get used to not napping.
