Sorry to sound stupid, I’m starting to look into alternatives to plastic backed pads and period pants seem like a good idea but… how do you wash them? Are you putting them in the machine with all your other clothes? The thought of it is a bit far-out for me at the minute!
Any brand recommendations, bearing in mind post birth periods are mad heavy?

I rinse mine out with cold water first and then pop them in the wash! You can wash with other things but it is recommended not to use fabric softener so you might want to do a separate wash for them if you use fabric softener for other things! Then just air dry them. I use WUKA x

I just wash them by hand in warm, but on the colder side water with antibacterial soap. In my pants, the instruction said you can also do a cold wash in the machine but they hold their original shape and state better if hand washed so I stick with that. Best purchase btw, never looked back.

I use moon cup and sometimes period pants (so far tried uniqlo ones). I rinse with warmish water and then wash in washing machine 😊

I rinse mine out when I have a shower and then put them in the wash

Rinse in cold water and then put in the wash. Mine are ok to be tumble dried as long as it’s on a low setting

I try to avoid plastic as much as possible for environmental and health reasons...but honestly, for postpartum I would personally just use disposable maternity shorts/nappies. I had a good birth but still found those first few weeks recovery wise. For me personally, having to also sort my period pants would have tipped me over the edge!
If you do go ahead with period pants, try pick a brand that is explicit in not using PFAs (forever chemicals) or silver as these can be carcinogenic x

Rinse them out and wash in washing machine on a delicate wash then on a low heat drying cycle
