I’m just in the process of buying a first home for me and my 9mo daughter 🥳. After solicitors fees etc I should have around £5-£7k to decorate, buy furniture etc. The home I’m buying is 10 years old and I don’t think the carpets have been replaced since then. They’re in good condition and I’m not sure if it’s worth buying new carpets with a baby that young? What have people done with their homes/ any advice when decorating or buying furniture?

Congratulations!! That’s a huge achievement 🎉
I’d absolutely change out the carpets, especially with a baby! I just wouldn’t feel clean until they were replaced because they can harbour a lot of hidden things!
As for decorating, Facebook marketplace has been an absolute winner!! We’ve saved loads getting things from there - some of it brand new too. Also keep a look out for sales on at habitat, dunelm and Asda as they have them often and are great for doing your house on a budget!

Congratulations!! We moved around the same age.
We put wooden floors, which was a terrible idea as my daughter now toddler throws everything at the floor. And the constant banging drives me insane… as i am over the dents. If the carpet looks good and doesn’t have hidden mold or something. I would just have it professionally cleaned for now and change it later on

Congratulations!
In my opinion definitely enough to get them cleaned 😊

It would depend on the state of the carpets and how well they were looked after. But for my piece of mind I would change to something that is sturdy and cand hide mess done by baby well

Congratulations! If they're in good condition I'd probably pay for a proper carpet shampooing to get them extra clean but not replace them if it was me. I'd be trying to focus on what needs doing/what you want to redecorate the most and keep as much as possible to add to your contingency pot for any repairs that come up.
I'd look at upcycle places and charity shops for furniture- the good ones are very picky about what they take on: often they have to collect large furniture items and it costs money to dispose of things they can't sell, so there are really good pieces to be found and they will often deliver as well!
Paint wise- we feel it's worth the extra money for good paint- we've used lick in all rooms bar one and the one we used a different paint for needed a lot more layers and doesn't look as good a few years down as our rooms with lick paint do, the colours look fantastic and even though we did all the painting it actually looks professional, which we absolutely are not 😂

I did say the brand, it probably doesn't look like a paint name haha it's "lick". Depending where you are have a look at larger charity shops for the best selection, and check out their Facebook pages, they often share the best stuff and will usually let you call to reserve! I recommend Sue Ryder as one to look at, and search for local upcycles!

Congratulations to you. Personally I would go for flooring in living rooms etc. easier to clean down of stuff is knocked over. We have recently changed our kids bedroom to have flooring as first child had issues with reflux as baby and basically ruined the carpets.
I wouldn’t get to much do house begin with, get basics and see how you use the space. We just brought new bed from Sonno haven’t had delivered yet but good prices. Try and shop about. Enjoy your new home

Do not buy new carpets with young kiddos they will get ruined. Pay to have them cleaned which is like $300

I'm not sure that carpets that are 10 years old are "too" old and automatically need replacing! My parents still have carpets in their house from when they moved in 43 years ago. Their condition, rather than age, would be the decider for me.
