Any tips for a successful cot nap please?
We currently contact nap unless we are out, but sleeps well in her cot on her own overnight?
Would like to try and see if we can move to some cot naps before RTW to make it easier for whilst I’m not there, but don’t want to set us up for failure.
Did try and put her down during a nap last week, she stayed asleep until changing in sleep cycle at around 32 minutes, she realised she was in the cot and woke up but I managed to get her back asleep with a contact nap as she was upset / clearly still tired.
Do people wait until they can see that they are tired and then just put them in the cot and within 10 minutes, they’re asleep, or try a bit before they’re usually tired etc?
Thanks!

Something that really helped my boy was falling asleep in his cot (not being rocked and then transferred) so he knew where he was when he did finish a sleep cycle. I put my boy down fully awake about 10 minutes before he’s due to sleep, he’s in his sleep sack with a dummy and a soother and I sit just outside the cot but don’t interact with him or touch him unless he’s really visibly upset. The first few days took about 15 minutes but now he’s down within 2/3 mins. That helped him also connect sleep cycles and he does around 1.5hours for both his naps now in the cot.

My first was a contact napper and so is my second! Once they fully transition to 2 naps (which my second has now done) they seem to go in the cot no problem. I think my first kid stopped them at 9months, I just rocked him to sleep like usual and plopped him in the cot and that was that. He was rocked for all naps and sleep till 18m then he just started drifting off on his own!

I follow a similar routine to bed time. When it’s about 10/15 minutes towards the end of my baby’s wake window we go to her room. Then we do nappy change, sleep bag, white noise and feed. Then put her in her cot. It takes consistency and patience. I started giving her 15 minutes to fall asleep until I intervened unless she was really upset. Then I would go in and rock her/feed her again (I breastfeed)
Just start with one nap (usually first nap is easier) then build up to the rest of the days naps xx
So at bed time I rock her and transfer her & she’s fine, should I not try this for days, just try and get her to get her self asleep in the cot from the beginning? X
