Hi everyone,
I was hoping to get some honest advice from those of you who’ve been through this.
I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old, and I’m really struggling with working full time while trying to be the kind of mum I want to be. My husband helps, but it just doesn’t feel the same, and I constantly feel like I’m not doing either role properly.
I’m feeling torn and have even started thinking about handing in my resignation, but I don’t know if that’s the right decision or if I’m just overwhelmed.
How do you manage it all? Does it get easier? I’d really appreciate hearing how others have navigated this stage.
Thank you 🤍

Have you thought about trying to reduce hours first before resigning?
See if that helps with some of the overwhelm etc. Obviously everyone is different but for me working 3 days is the best of both worlds. I get to feel like myself and do something separate from being a mum but I am also off 2 days a week so my daughter gets some time with me.

I’m a working FT mom to a 10 month old and man I soooo wish I could resign but can’t afford to. Work is draining and by the time I’m home, my brain is fried. My husband and I both work so we literally tag team baby every day. It can be exhausting!! But it deff makes a big difference that he always meets me half way.
If you can afford to resign, I would say do it!! You won’t ever regret spending time with your kids and putting your career on hold for your own sanity. Work will always be there but we only get this once chance at their childhood and also your mental health is important.,

That sucks! I wonder whether the fact you are a manager is some of the overwhelm. Would a step down and part time be an option?

I would vote that you should keep working full time and your husband should do more at home! It’s not fair that it’s always women who have to sacrifice their careers. If you stop working now, it will be harder to reenter the workforce when the kids start school. I recommend a book called Drop the Ball by Tiffany Dufu

I personally think, if you can afford to not work and provide a good life for you’re children then do it resign especially if you’re struggling however if you can’t financially afford it then I’d stay working

If you can afford it, resign! If I could, I would in a heartbeat! And I work 100% from home. It’s just too much.

When you're calculating what's affordable make sure you take pension contributions into account. Ie, if you reduce hours your pension reduces too. If you stop working are you going to start a private pension? Also, depending on the country you're in (UK Advice following) if you don't have sufficient years contributing to NI you may effect your government pension eligibility. I'd ask about what your childcare arrangement is and if you have support outside of just you two.

Can you hire a babysitter to do 1-2 evenings per week? My son has an amazing babysitter who’s honestly part of the family come once per week and having those extra 3.5 hours literally make FT possible for me. Also yeah — drop the ball. Keep your foot in your career, it’s okay to be mediocre instead of perfect for a while. Some people are mediocre at their jobs when there’s no kids!!

OP, did you submit a formal flexible working request?
It's a really tough one. On one hand, your children will only be this little once. But on the other, you have spent years building your career and it would be a shame to walk away from that. Especially as the job market and economy and rough, and it's often super difficult for women who have taken a few years out to rejoin the workforce (esp at senior levels).
Is there a competitor who may be able to offer more flexible working/pt hours? There must be some middle ground somewhere.
Wishing you all the best x
Also- my son is always unwell and regularly has to go to hospital. Which is another barrier in my life. My work did offer me 13weeks unpaid to take within the year but I dont know if I just want part time
My partner and I live together, and I’m a first-time mom to our two-month-old baby. Since the very first day I came home from the hospital after my C-section, while I was in pain and recovering, he had friends over without consulting me. I was so overwhelmed that I ended up crying in front of them.
Since then, he has continued agreeing to visits on weekdays and weekends without consulting me first. Sometimes, we’ll literally be in the middle of a conversation, and he’ll interrupt me to say, “Can you open the door? So-and-so is downstairs to see the baby.”
Yesterday was the height of it all, and I finally had enough. He came home from work around 9:30 p.m., and I had been taking care of the baby the entire time. He then asked if his friend had called me because they wanted to come see the baby. I finally confronted him because I’m tired of this happening repeatedly.
I’m exhausted, and weekends are my only chance to get things done while he helps with the baby. I don’t mind visitors, but I expect advance notice and to be consulted before anyone is invited over. The frustrating part is that when I speak up, I’m made to feel like the villain while he gets to be the good guy who says yes to everyone.
Am I wrong for wanting basic consideration and boundaries in my own home?

I am in the process of potty training my son and need any tips or tricks! He does pretty well when he doesn’t have a diaper or pull up on but as soon as we put anything on him even training underwear he starts to have accidents 🤦♀️ I have been off all week and have to send him back to daycare on Monday. Clearly the commando method can’t be used at daycare. HELP!

I have been with my child Father for a little bit over three years. We have a 14 month old baby. He complains about the way that I speak to him which I really don’t have a clue what I’m wrong. I’m Caribbean he’s African. I’ve tried to tone down. We still have been going at it for probably two years. He thinks I’m selfish and doesn’t show him love. He complains that I yell, which i don’t think i do, or talk crazy. He wants all these things from me, but isn’t nice to me.
He’s a great father , he provides, but I feel like it’s getting to a point where I can’t do it anymore. Every time we have an argument every time I bring something up of what I don’t like he always turn it back to me.
He says well I’m doing this and I have talked about it and I haven’t changed. I could never bring up something I don’t like without him turning it around to me, and lecturing me.
two days ago he’s said that he’s intentionally being an ass to me so I can see how it feels like when i do it to him and at this point it’s like why are we even in a relationship?

I’m gonna sound like an A-hole but I need to get it out so I don’t take it out in my husband and child.
My 16 month old was throwing up all night the other night so I got like no sleep. Then my husband was sick last night and so far today throwing up. My son has been very emotional tooday too and won’t nap and I’m just exhausted.
And unfairly annoyed at my husband. Bc when I was pregnant I was throwing up for like 9 weeks and still had work and chores. So like suck it up for a day and help. Throw up and rally, if I could do it for 9 weeks straight you can do it for 1.
Also I started my period so that doesn’t help my mood and I’m bleeding through everything every hour.
I know it’s just one of those days and we all have them but I just needed to vent
