Just found out I am pregnant with baby number 2. My son is 2.5 and isnt potty trained yet despite trying for several months. I definitely need him to be potty trained before this baby gets here in November. Any tips?

First of all, congrats! Secondly, at what stage is your son in potty training? My son is also 2.5 and I started about a month and a half ago, with a newborn, and wish I had done it when he was 2, I was pregnant and he was more interested in the potty.
It all comes in phases. My son is in the “won’t go unless prompted, will have an accident if not prompted and tell you he went afterward” phase. He’s not able to identify when he needs to go, but that takes time.
My advice is to ditch the diaper or pull up when at home. Pay attention to his water intake and figure out how long he can hold it. My son does well with prompting every 2 hours. He will tell us that he doesn’t have to go, but he does. We also make the potty fun by reading books, playing a game or I let him watch home videos on my phone as an incentive. We always have to switch up the incentive for him!
Good luck!

I’d def recommend ditching the pull ups! Can go comando with trousers if pants are an issue!

Learning when they need to go is a skill that takes time. We started with a few naked days (which created a “naked boy” monster haha but it was easier to get him to the potty, then moved to commando, then to undies in the house. He will wear a pull up which we call a “travel diaper” but he actually just refused it before going out just now, so big win!
I agree with the other poster to go commando. They need to learn how wet feels. Diapers and pull ups absorb the wet and uncomfortable sensation which could be why you get resistance. If you think about it, diapers is all they have known since birth. It’s a security blanket of sorts. Some kids like the feeling of their warm, wet diaper… as gross as that is to us. My son was like that. He would REFUSE to take off his wet diaper. Getting rid of the pull up while at home is key. Use one when you go out and about but explain that it’s there in case of an accident, you do not pee in it, and as soon as you get home it comes off.

Also consistency is key! When me and my husband forget to prompt our son is when accidents happen. That’s on us and is not on him, since he can’t yet tell us when he has to go.

Agree with Natalie! Maybe prompting every 15-30 minutes is too much. It took me some time but figure out how long he can hold it then prompt less and less. We were prompting every 10 minutes and my son got soooo annoyed lol. Gradually give more time between prompts and then you’ll get into a good rhythm

My advice is to ditch all daytime diapers/pull ups. We trained at 21 months before my most recent was born doing that. Don’t be surprised if there is a regression after baby is born. We went from 100% potty trained and self initiating to refusing to go, insisting “I’m baby”
we gave pull ups back for a few weeks but took to the bathroom regularly. Once adjusted to baby sibling we got rid of the pull ups again and it was fine.

Thank you all for the advice. I have definitely been having a difficult time lately being consistent. I also have chronic illness issues as well as being a full time masters student right now. So sometimes the consistency side of things just gets really difficult.

I would read or do the audiobook of the oh crap potty training! It’s so good and will help you get it down!! she even has chapters for if you have made multiple attempts before.

that’s a lot all at once! You’re doing your best. He will get there. I had some moments too where I got upset or we forgot to stay consistent. I just try to remember that this is his milestone, and a huge one at that! We can’t make another person pee where they don’t want to pee, so there’s so much outside of our control as parents! You got this ♥️

I'm also in the process of potty training my 2.5-year-old son. He says he'll tell me when he needs to go to the toilet and never does. I bought a toilet chart from Amazon; you stick a magnetic sticker on it when he tells you, when he goes to the toilet, and when he washes his hands. The first day he was very excited, but the next day he didn't even look at it. Maybe it will work for you.
is this normal? He drinks fine during the day, but he started refusing bottles during the night. Sometimes i am able to trick him and feed him while asleep, but deffo not while he is awake. He also drinks just slightly less during the day. He used to drink almost 170ml, now barely finishes 150ml, only every now and then 170ml.
But he seems ok, he is happy , cheerful, etc. Even during the night he is responsive - when i change his nappy he wakes briefly and smiles at me ,💖
*I will ask health visitors in the morning aswell

I hate to post this but im really stuck in a horrible position. Im 11 days post partum and have been trying to exclusively breastfeed, initially i had almost 0 supply but then once i found out my son had jaundice I was with a pump on my breast 24/7 trying to increase supply to flush it out, this in effect caused me flu like synptoms, severe exhaustion to the point I could collapse and I wasn't safe to drive. I was also suffering quite significant hormonal crash at 4 days PP crying all day everyday and truly looked like sh!t.
Prior to the baby being born, he suggested we nought formula just incase, we got kendamil. My husband seemed to be fine with us using it and said it was always an option if we needed it. However, his opinion changed as he did more research about the ingredients. Despite seeing me struggle and go through severe depression as a result of the breastfeeding he tells me to push through, asking health visitors on my behalf when to expect the pain to stop and how long I need to pursue for, but I genuinely dont want to continue at all - I feel like hes taken away my right to choose and I feel pressure from both him and his mum to push through it.
Ive always said I wanted to breastfeed from day one, and had been looking foward to it, but now the reality has hit all I feel like is a milk cow, im working extra hard so that he can have 2-3 bottles for his 'night shifts' because he hates the baby crying and wont even compromise on combi feeding. My husband shuts me down whenever I suggest it saying the ingredients are disgusting and we shouldnt give it to our son yet theres no real formula alternative that hes happy with. The more nurses tell us about the magic of breastfeeding, his eyes light up and it gives him even more reason to force me to "push through it", these things are then used against me when I suggest formula.
Im devistated because I feel like im walking on egg shells around him. Its now got to the point i just feel nauseous when baby breastfeeds, I feel 0 emotion towards him and it's affecting the relationship I have with him as my son and also myself.
Ive tried telling my husband all of this his response? "it will get better, just keep trying"
The reason im only posting now is that at 1:50am baby was crying in the cot and I woke him up and asked him to feed him, when he returned he had an awful attitude when he returned and got mad with me because he thought I gave the baby formula (I put it next to the bottle in the fridge) I said to him "its just incase you needed it" and he told me I had enough time in the day to pump more breastmilk (I didnt, I had a baby constantly latched to me causing me pain) we got into a small argument when I said to him, "im sick of you taking away my choice, as of tomorrow im no longer breastfeeding, its too much"
He then said "do whatever you want" then turned away from me on his phone.
Its crazy because hes super loving and nice to me, trying to feed me, hydrate me, give me my vitamins but I feel its only so I can make milk rather than because he wants to take care of a freshly postpartum woman, aka his wife. Since coming home from the hospital, ive not taken care of myself at all, ive barely rested, I actually feel quite depressed and alone and I just cant catch a break.
Can anyone offer their shoulder and advice as im just super confused and hurt. I genuinely feel like a milk cow. I think id be happier to breastfeed if I didnt have to do everything else like changing him, tidying up, doing bottles and home admin... if I could just genuinely eat and sleep and feed I'd be happier.
Help

I combi feed my baby. Based on advice from relatives (lol) I was told when it comes to bottle feeds, especially at night feeds, just prepare them before we go to bed then reheat when needed.
My health visitor has come and advised against that due to bacteria growth. We thought this may be a reason why baby is in discomfort due to upset tummy.
To make life easier at night I’ve just gone back to breast feeding as he will cry the place down if he has to wait at night lool. If I have to make a bottle from scratch does anyone recommend at cooling device I can use?
Thank you x

My baby has always been a fantastic sleeper and would sleep through the night in her cot. Shes never slept in our bed. She would fall asleep on us and transfer over to her cot easily. Recently she is crying every time we put her down and waking multiple times in the night.
Has this happened to anyone else? It’s been a week now and I don’t want to make a habit of her sleeping in my bed when we’ve done so well up until now.
