Husband FORCING me to BF

I hate to post this but im really stuck in a horrible position. Im 11 days post partum and have been trying to exclusively breastfeed, initially i had almost 0 supply but then once i found out my son had jaundice I was with a pump on my breast 24/7 trying to increase supply to flush it out, this in effect caused me flu like synptoms, severe exhaustion to the point I could collapse and I wasn't safe to drive. I was also suffering quite significant hormonal crash at 4 days PP crying all day everyday and truly looked like sh!t.

Prior to the baby being born, he suggested we nought formula just incase, we got kendamil. My husband seemed to be fine with us using it and said it was always an option if we needed it. However, his opinion changed as he did more research about the ingredients. Despite seeing me struggle and go through severe depression as a result of the breastfeeding he tells me to push through, asking health visitors on my behalf when to expect the pain to stop and how long I need to pursue for, but I genuinely dont want to continue at all - I feel like hes taken away my right to choose and I feel pressure from both him and his mum to push through it.

Ive always said I wanted to breastfeed from day one, and had been looking foward to it, but now the reality has hit all I feel like is a milk cow, im working extra hard so that he can have 2-3 bottles for his 'night shifts' because he hates the baby crying and wont even compromise on combi feeding. My husband shuts me down whenever I suggest it saying the ingredients are disgusting and we shouldnt give it to our son yet theres no real formula alternative that hes happy with. The more nurses tell us about the magic of breastfeeding, his eyes light up and it gives him even more reason to force me to "push through it", these things are then used against me when I suggest formula.

Im devistated because I feel like im walking on egg shells around him. Its now got to the point i just feel nauseous when baby breastfeeds, I feel 0 emotion towards him and it's affecting the relationship I have with him as my son and also myself.

Ive tried telling my husband all of this his response? "it will get better, just keep trying"

The reason im only posting now is that at 1:50am baby was crying in the cot and I woke him up and asked him to feed him, when he returned he had an awful attitude when he returned and got mad with me because he thought I gave the baby formula (I put it next to the bottle in the fridge) I said to him "its just incase you needed it" and he told me I had enough time in the day to pump more breastmilk (I didnt, I had a baby constantly latched to me causing me pain) we got into a small argument when I said to him, "im sick of you taking away my choice, as of tomorrow im no longer breastfeeding, its too much"

He then said "do whatever you want" then turned away from me on his phone.

Its crazy because hes super loving and nice to me, trying to feed me, hydrate me, give me my vitamins but I feel its only so I can make milk rather than because he wants to take care of a freshly postpartum woman, aka his wife. Since coming home from the hospital, ive not taken care of myself at all, ive barely rested, I actually feel quite depressed and alone and I just cant catch a break.

Can anyone offer their shoulder and advice as im just super confused and hurt. I genuinely feel like a milk cow. I think id be happier to breastfeed if I didnt have to do everything else like changing him, tidying up, doing bottles and home admin... if I could just genuinely eat and sleep and feed I'd be happier.

Oh lovely, it makes me so sad reading this ! X I’m sending you the biggest hug. ❤️ You're only 11 days postpartum, and you deserve to be cared for, not pressured. Breastfeeding should never come at the expense of your mental or physical health. Your husband can have his opinions, but it's YOUR body and YOUR choice. Formula is perfectly safe, and a fed baby with a happy, healthy mum is what matters most. ❤️
Your husband needs to understand that supporting breastfeeding means supporting YOU, not just your milk supply. Please speak to your midwife or GP about how you're feeling, too. You deserve support now, not just reassurance that things will eventually get better.

You matter just as much as your baby does. You've done absolutely nothing wrong. ❤️ xxx

Biggest hugs. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time of it

All the stress isn’t what you need right now!

Are you pumping in the night? It doesn’t make sense for you to be wakened to pump and husband give a bottle. Generally supply is up in the night.

If you do want to carry on with any breastfeeding I would reach out to specific breastfeeding support who can advise/ really help.

0300 100 0212
That’s the national breastfeeding helpline

It’s there because it can feel really hard at times ❤️❤️ I would speak to them or your health visitor so you’re not tackling this alone xx

Im so so sorry you are dealing with this! Breastfeeding is SO hard and no one should put pressure on you, especially your own husband who can see how much you are struggling! I dont have any advice but I hope someone can make him see sense xx

Awww sorry you are feeling this way. Priority is you and baby. It is absoluteky your choice not his choice. Baby will be fine with just formula or a combination. Whatever works best for you.

Ohh dear, I feel so sorry reading this.. speak to the breastfeeding team, breastfeeding is hard especially if its your first baby..
You should make the decision of what's best for you, i don't think some husbands understand what we go through.

I have done mixed with both my first and second baby.. boys need more milk and I just didn't want to add stress of pumping on top of it. So hubby does the bottle feeding with formula..

This is really upsetting to read. We are so vulnerable at this early stage. Your husband's demeanour is abusive and I'm worried for you - I would encourage you to set some boundaries/ground rules earlier rather than later. This won't get better on its own. If you have had enough of trying breastfeeding, then it's your body and you get to decide what happens to it. I'm sorry but your husband cannot force you to breastfeed, even if he tries to do that by making you feel guilty or that you don't have a choice. He needs to get a grip and realise that your baby needs to be fed somehow, and formula is perfectly capable of doing that.

3m old refuses bottle during night

is this normal? He drinks fine during the day, but he started refusing bottles during the night. Sometimes i am able to trick him and feed him while asleep, but deffo not while he is awake. He also drinks just slightly less during the day. He used to drink almost 170ml, now barely finishes 150ml, only every now and then 170ml.
But he seems ok, he is happy , cheerful, etc. Even during the night he is responsive - when i change his nappy he wakes briefly and smiles at me ,💖

*I will ask health visitors in the morning aswell

No judgment- FTM!

I combi feed my baby. Based on advice from relatives (lol) I was told when it comes to bottle feeds, especially at night feeds, just prepare them before we go to bed then reheat when needed.

My health visitor has come and advised against that due to bacteria growth. We thought this may be a reason why baby is in discomfort due to upset tummy.

To make life easier at night I’ve just gone back to breast feeding as he will cry the place down if he has to wait at night lool. If I have to make a bottle from scratch does anyone recommend at cooling device I can use?

Thank you x
