Hi, is there anything I need to claim as a first-time mum finance-wise, apart from maternity pay of course? Me and my partner both work full time. I’ll be 39 weeks on Wednesday so just wanted to check it’s not too late to apply for anything if there is.

I was just reading about child benifit - you can apply straight after birth and you have Borth certificate.

Definitely child benefit as soon as you can

Go on turn2us or entitledto. Enter all your details into the benefits calculator, it will let you know if you’re eligible for any extra help! Like above, child benefit, but then if you’re eligible for UC, and start receiving it, you can then apply for the sure start maternity grant :)

And don't forget about your keeping in touch days! A full days pay for logging on for any amount of time - especially if your planning on working in a no pay period! Worth around 2k to me! My olicy says I have to have them organised in advance (I could do it on maternity leave... but sorting it now)

OP are you from UK or somewhere else? If Canada your employer should be handling a lot of the paperwork.

Hi 👋 ! I also claim universal credit, you can ask for help with your housing payment, child element and just a general top up, me and my husband both also work full time but since im on maternity they bump up my pay for around £900! Definitely worth look into but will depend on your incomes 😊

If you’re eligible for UC I would do that. If you’re getting enhanced maternity pay for a few months I would wait to start a claim until it goes to SMP. I’ve gone back to work but 15 hours a week so not much pay, so the UC payment is a nice little top up

Not finance wise but make sure you sign up to boots parenting club as you get some free baby items. Also claim your Emma’s diary baby pack! Amazon baby wishlist also has discounts and you get a free gift. As others have said, start a UC claim and as long as you are receiving any before the baby is 6 months you can get the £500 sure start maternity grant for your baby too x

If your partner is earning much over 33k you wont be able to get UC. We get nothing 🙃
Given them the benefit of the doubt multiple times. I’m fed up with Having to sit there and watch things happen and wanting to cry. Avoiding visits/meet ups, just for it to happen again the next time.
And you know what her response was “oh this is all new, we always kissed babies none of this was a thing. I didn’t know he was ill, I’ll
tell him to let me know next time”.
That’s a straight up lie. She knew & she let him keep touching her hands and letting her put them back in her mouth (after he’s just been coughing in his hands). (Baby is a newborn can I add)
I’ve never even been close with this woman, I met her 1-2 times before I fell pregnant. Then when I was pregnant she never once asked to see me. I only saw her once because I invited her to the baby shower. Now that baby’s here , suddenly she wants to see her every day.
I know times are different but even my own parents & grandparents have said this is all common sense/respect for a young baby.

Hey girls abit of a personal question but I use to be on the pill from when I was 18 and stopped when I was around 28, I really don’t want to go back on it and struggling to know what the best contraception to use, I would love to know what your thoughts are on it and what you are using for protection?
