Constant worry

Our little girl was born 6 weeks early and is now 18 months old, but she is quite small. She is on the 2nd centile for height and 30th for weight. I am used to constantly hearing how tiny she is, and when she was much younger, it put me off going out as I always had to explain she was early and was small for gestational age, etc.

I know in terms of development, she'll be assessed up until 2 on her corrected age and not actual age, but this still doesn't stop me from constantly worrying. She seems to do a lot of things when she is ready. She didn't start rolling until about 7 months (actual age). At 1, she had no teeth, and I booked a dental appointment as I was getting worried, and by the time we went, her bottom teeth were coming through. She didn't start walking until she was about 16 months actual age.

My latest obsession/worry is talking. She is 18 months and doesn't really say any recognisable words besides "quack quack" for her bath ducks and birds and even planes ,lol. She sometimes says "mama" and "dada," but that's it.

I know I shouldn't worry as she'll do it in her own time, but it almost feels like I'm constantly worrying that I may miss something or I am not doing anything right. It just feels overwhelming sometimes!

My gal was 5 weeks early and when she was younger I worried...now at 17 months I dont as much.

Every baby does things at their own rate regardless of when they were born. Everything is a range and we need kids of all sizes and all percentiles just like adults.

Id consider speaking with a therapist for your own anxiety. I truly believe your child is totally fine and on her schedule.

My little girl was 5 weeks early and I panicked thinking she was behind.
But they honestly do catch up so quickly as they reach 2. Its very strange how it happens
My girl didnt crawl until 11 months and didnt walk until 16 months either.
But when they do.. it makes it so much worth the wait and so special ❤️

My baby was 6 weeks early and is now 6.6m corrected, almost 8 actual. I’m not where you are yet of course in terms of development but just to echo that I get that worry completely. I’m trying to be better and not compare, and I try my best to focus on the milestones he has met rather than what he’s still yet to do. Sending you support and my inbox is always open ❤️

Thank you all. I have spoken to the Health Visitor who's asked her nursery to do a Wellcomm assessment. I'll also try not to worry too much.

Gut feeling

I’m trying to get my mind right, trying to find something to take my mind off this got feeling I’m having that something just isn’t right and when I have this feeling I’ve never been wrong. And I just want to not think about what it could possibly need cause I know once I find out it will not be pleasant. How do you shake your worries and this gut feeling?

5am wake ups

My 2 year old keeps waking up at 5am and is cranky and tired enough that she wants to go back to sleep but needs lots of cuddles. But because by this point sleep pressure is low she’s takes over an hour to resettle and fall back to sleep. By this point my alarm is going off 6:15am for work 😖😩
She used to wake up nicely around 7am and we’d all be a lot calmer and have breakfast together but now I’m either letting her sleep in a bit so she’s not over tired and there’s always a big rush to get out the door.

Any tips?

She goes to bed at 8-8:30pm naps around 1pm for 1h-1h:30m

Sleeping tips for newborns?

Hi moms!
How are your babies sleeping, especially those under 3 months?

My almost 8-week-old baby sleeps for hours in my arms, on my chest, or in the carrier, even while I’m moving around doing chores. But the moment I transfer him to his bassinet, he starts grunting, wiggling, and wakes up and starts crying.

I can spend up to 2 hours trying to get him to nap in his bassinet, and he still doesn’t fall asleep. By then, his next feeding is already coming up, and he hasn’t napped at all! 😩

At night, he sleeps much more peacefully when we bed-share. I’ve also noticed that he’s calm and quiet on my chest but much noisier and more restless in his bassinet.

I’d love to hear your real-life experiences!

What actually helped your baby sleep in their bassinet? Do you use a special swaddle, a particular type of bassinet, or any tricks to make the transfer easier?

Colicy Newborn

I’m a first time mom and my newborn is about 4 weeks now and began being fussy and just about inconsolable around 2 weeks. Most days he doesn’t nap or sleep at all during the day and is crying just about all day. I can’t put him down without him crying & if i’m lucky on the days he does nap he’s down for about 2-3 hours. I was told newborns sleep most of the day and have “wake windows” but mine doesn’t at all. He’s fed, changed & burped but will cry from morning to night and I spend my days holding and rocking him. Any tips?

Crawling!

When should I get worried that my son is showing little interest in crawling? He’s 8 months old? He’s great and sitting and has just started spinning when he sits but will refuse to go on his tummy.
