Home Ownership?

I’m curious how many moms own their home? Also curious how many single mom/single income home owners? It’s a goal I’d love to reach. But not sure if it’s the most realistic option for me…
Comments and advice appreciated!

We are in the process of looking for a house rn! My husband owned our last home but this next one is going to be owned by both of us :) just waiting for the right one to come along. My husband brings in the majority of our income. I have a cleaning business that allows me to work very little yet bring in maybe 500-1k a month.

My husband (42 yo) and I (32 yo) bought our first home last year. We had one kid at the time and a second on the way. Definitely a "starter home" for sure

I’ve never believed in rent. I’d sooner buy smaller than pay rent. Done so since 21.
The truth is, rent smaller and cheaper, save as much as possible, buy and fix up when you can is best idea.

We bought our house in 2018 when I was still a SAHM.

We own our home ☺️. The home we bought is our starter home but it’s so nice and newly renovated that it can be a forever home but I want to build our dream DREAM home.

We bought our first home (a 3 bed 2 bath mobile home) in NJ in 2014 for $10k. We had it renovated & up for sale & it finally sold in January for $67k.

Last May we moved 300 miles away from our home state & bought a 2 bedroom, 2 bath manufactured home on a basement foundation that needs some work for $70k. We'll have an acre of land & live in a tiny rural neighborhood about 10 minutes from town. We're starting our garden soon & we'll be adding our first livestock in the next few weeks.

We've done all of this on a single income of less than $5k net a month. I'm in the process of gaining a skill & intend to work up to matching or exceeding my husband income & from there I'd love to rent our house out & buy a significantly larger property & a comfortable sized home.

We just picked up the keys to our first home! It’s taken us a long time 🙌

Hahahah we are millennials living in Southern California.. we will likely be renters for life

Own my own home. Bought it all myself and on one income.

We have kind of a weird situation - I moved from the US to the UK and there are some funky tax laws, so my husband owns our house and technically my name isn’t on it. He pays all of the mortgage and bills (and both our kids’ nursery which is about £3,600 a month itself) so I’m not complaining. But when we buy our ‘forever home’ it will be in both of our names.

I own my home, had it before my partner and I met. And now we own it together.

I own my home and pay the mortgage, utilities, and internet. My partner pays for car insurance and phone bill. We both pay for food. He pays for car&house maintenance and for new appliances.

I bought my home when I was 27 in 2012. At the time I was just dating my now husband, I was a single mother with one child. I was full time worker and in the Army reserves, so in honesty I had some leverage with loans and a down payment. We’re now married and he’s part owner, it seems like the more we talked about moving the more expensive it got to buy. So we’re sticking with our starter home. It’s definitely possible as a single mom, but location is a huge factor. Unless you are just hell bent on where you live, possibly think about moving. There are some nice starter homes in nice neighborhoods for decent prices.

I’m in my 3rd mortgaged home, this one my now hubs just added me to the deed when I walked him through refinancing, he bought the property next door to his folks so they could live out their lives in their own home, so we couldn’t just move. Now we could, but it’s just too expensive & we wouldn’t even be able to afford half of what we have, kinda messed up. My other homes were purchased w/my ex, but I didn’t need him to be capable of buying them. My stepmom was a broker & my bio mom passed w/o a will, I never really had to rent, she knew the ends & outs of the market & when you own a home & don’t have a will, the house is split between children & spouse, so I bought my first house at 20. Parents taught me how to make my credit work for me as a poor person. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have a chunky mortgage so the bank actually own more of it than we do.

I bought a house myself before I even met my husband. We then sold that and bought another shortly after we got married.

I don't currently own a home but when I was a married, we owned 2 homes.

Friends

Im really struggling.. I really dont have friends. I live in central 209, and we dont really leave or do much. I miss having friends. I miss my kid having a friend, too😮‍💨 I'm not a picky person. Jesus is at the center of my life, so meeting a friend who also loves Jesus is really important to me. Other than that, we just need some company 😢

Line or indent?

So me and my partner have started trying for another baby, I came off the pill around the 25th September, but I took a test today because something was just telling me to, I took 2 with the same urine in a cup but got I think different results? The bottom test is the one I took first, the top is once that I took about 10 minutes later as I was a bit shocked (picture in comments)😂 what do you think?

MIL Advice

I’ve been with my partner for 6 years. We had a rough time around a year in due to his mental health, but he is doing so well now and we’re stronger than ever!
There have been a few things that his mum has said, and now I don’t want to see her or spend time with her alone. I just wanted everyone’s thoughts.
The first thing was when we got the mortgage. My partner received an inheritance, but I put in the exact same amount towards the deposit because I helped him pay off his car, which removed a bill before we applied for the mortgage. She told him we shouldn’t have gone 50/50 because of this, giving him more financial security.
I moved on from it as I thought, she just wants the best for her son.

We planned this pregnancy and have saved over £10,000 for financial security. The majority of the savings are from me as I have a higher income. I do not mind this, as I’ll be taking a full year off work, and him contributing means a lot because it allows me to.

We have since gotten along well, including her messaging me decor ideas and gardening tips.

When we told her I was pregnant, she cried. I knew it was because she wasn’t happy, but my partner wanted to hope that she was just processing. Still, she congratulated us.

A few weeks later, she told him she was worried he was going to be ‘trapped’ and end up paying ‘child maintenance.’
He stood up for me and told her this was way out of line.
She apologised and said it wasn’t her intention, and that she was just worried about his mental health. For context, at the beginning of the year he was extremely low; this was all as a result of his employer treating him awfully. He has a new job and is THRIVING, back to my weird, happy, and hyperactive partner.
She said she made those comments because she was worried about his mental health and the pressure on our relationship. Despite the fact that I was the one here.. every day supporting him and getting him through it, whilst she called him once or twice a week to check in. She ended up staying at ours for a week so he wasn’t alone which I was grateful for. But she only experience a week of it, I got him through almost 3 months until he started his new job.

The comments felt very personal because I grew up on a council estate and in an abusive household and she knows that. In my opinion, if that’s what she was worried about, that’s what she should have said. But given everything I have done to support him, the comments aren’t justified in my opinion.

She then blamed her upbringing and how her life has been so hard, including the divorce from his dad. She’s very negative about his dad and refuses to see him, even though it would mean missing her own daughter’s wedding.

My partner still talks to her, and I don’t expect him to stop. She has not sent me a single message—not even an apology—since. It’s been weeks.

My stance is that I will go to family gatherings if she is there, but I will not make any trips to see her or stay at her house like we used to. She can see the baby as much as she likes, but I don’t want to see or speak to her unless I have to. She doesn’t even know if she’s going to hold the baby, as she’s also said she doesn’t like babies. I won’t let her impact my daughter.

My partner understands and won’t push it, but I still feel bad.

For me, because I grew up abused, I’m not willing to be treated or spoken about like that. Had she apologised, I could have moved on, but she’s made no contact with me since.

Am I being unreasonable?
