I kinda very loosely homeschool my two that are 2 and 3 years old. What I mean by that is I don’t really do any sort of homeschool routine or anything like that but we do a lot of educational play during the day. We watch educational videos and then usually do a project or game/play based on that thing that we learn about. For example: we talked about volcanos the other day so we watched some educational and fun videos about volcanoes, then made a typical baking soda/vinegar volcano. We did the same thing learning about crystals. Watched a couple videos about them and then made rock candy crystals and salt crystals. You can do the same thing with bugs, animals, really any topic. We read books together and instead of just reading through fully I will add more to each page like counting how many of something is on that page or if we read animal books I ask them what the animals are and what they sound like and maybe any other interesting facts they remember from earlier

Children learn through play. 2-5 year olds do not need to be sat at a table doing worksheets. Sensory play such as sand, water, playdough are fantastic. Inset boards or jigsaws. Construction toys such as wooden blocks or magnatiles. Lots of outdoor play and communication opportunities 😊

Like Bonnie said that age is a lot of play! We work on fine motor skills - scissor cutting, gripping crayons/pencils, lots of tracing, puzzles, songs about the days of the week! I honestly just use tracing worksheets I find off Pinterest for free.

Our son is almost 19 months old, but we are just reading at home, doing some color learning, learning to identify animals, certain foods and some toddler sign language for now. Won't go further into it until maybe age 4.

They have dry erase Priddy books, coloring pages from a mother goose pre k books, easel that’s chalk, dry erase & paper, shape sorters, toys for counting, letters & animals, blocks, word/pic flash cards, play dough, paint, crayons, markers, magnifying glass for science stuff, especially outside. I also have the lingo kids app, it’s fun & Kahn. Basically none of these things are forced sit down & do, I have almost a pod type setup in my living room & he chooses what we play next & if he wants to use the priddy brook he’ll find a page & I kinda demonstrate how it’s supposed to be, like tracing letters, then he might try or just color. The main books & flash cards I’ve had since my 16y was little, I owned an affordable daycare & did a pre k curriculum, bc most people, like me, couldn’t afford pre k or half days. Our days are just filled w/play, these are just some of the toys we play with along w/ the other toys, is all, nothing serious & mine is 4yo now.

At 2-3 I wouldn’t homeschool as they’re too young for formal schooling. Play, experiences and reading to them is all I would do 😊

I’ve been “homeschooling” my 2 year old since she was around 19months we mainly do things like learning journals I find ideas on tik tok and google, we do a lot of reading through the day I also got these posters of different things like animals, emotions, letters and numbers from tik tok shop, puzzles and learning games, teaching letter sounds through the day but also involving them in things like preparing food, laundry, small cleaning tasks, encouraging them to dress themselves brush their teeth, scrub themselves in the bath, we go to playgroups for ‘socialising’ and try and go to the park as much as possible
I have recently got the good and beautiful preschool language arts curriculum but need to solidify my daughters knowing of letters before we start

Trying to work out the school pick up routine. When you have a baby and a school age kid what helps you to be ready on time? Advice welcome

Male nursery worker

Am I being unreasonable? I feel uncomfortable with a male nursery worker changing my daughter’s nappies. I was told he was “helping out” for a day? But no explanation was given. Can I raise it with the head without being seen as problematic? To be completely honest, I found it unsettling and odd he just appeared out of the blue..

Screen-Free

Any other moms doing no screens? How do you get anything done or deal with the crying?? I feel like I never get a moment for myself or to even do things that need to be done like cleaning or cooking. My baby loves to be held all day but hates carriers. No judgement please! We are trying to do no screens for the first two years. Sometimes I have to just let him cry for a bit while I do something for myself and it feels awful. And let's not even get into the screaming in the car...I don't know if it's true and I feel kinda bad for saying this but I feel like screen-free parents just deal with a lot more crying 😞

Childminders

After a bit of advice. My son has been at a childminders since September last year. I'm finding her to be increasing unreliable, so far this year she's had 4 days closed and multiple times when I drop him off she informs me I need to collect him early, sometimes 2 hours early.
This is losing me money as I have a job that I can then not go to, as it's too short notice to arrange alternative childcare.
I've not had a childminder before, so I'm unsure if this is the norm?
