Water birth and gestational diabetes

Had our 36 week appointment last week with the midwife and my bump was measuring small (had this a couple of times with our daughter and all was fine). Went for a growth scan over the weekend and no concerns about his weight but his abdomen is on the 95th centile. As a result of this they have now booked me in for a gestational diabetes test but not until next week when I'll be 38 weeks.

Obviously this has come as a shock as we went in thinking the baby was measuring small and now we're in limbo really late on in the pregnancy. Basically, has anyone been in a similar situation? How quick do you get the results as obviously I'll be full term a couple of weeks after the test! Would I still be able to have a water birth as planned?! Sorry, so many questions but if anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it as feeling a bit lost now 🫣

You get the results the next day so the turn around is super fast but the GTT at 38 weeks isn’t very reliable as your body naturally stores sugar differently in preparation for labour.

I’ve had the test twice this pregnancy as baby is off the charts large and they were convinced I had it (I don’t). I’m planning a homebirth and could still have it with GD as long as it was diet controlled it would just have been out of guidance so I don’t see why you couldn’t have a water birth in hospital.

Also worth noting growth scans this late aren’t very accurate either x

I had the EXACT same thing. Bump measuring on 9th, on the growth they put baby on 89th and stomach on 96th. I had the GTT and it was negative which I knew it would be. I got the results on my pregnancy notes app the same day.

My last baby was only 6lb7 and I really don’t look or feel any bigger or heavier this time so quite confident it was an inaccurate measurement.

I got a second opinion from a sonographer privately who also works for NHS and she put baby on 62nd centile with measurements only 3 days apart.

I’m just going ahead with usual low risk pregnancy now and nothing has changed. The doctor just asked midwife to refer if any issues with my next measurements which won’t be until my due date anyway x

How do you pronounce Wesley

Do you like the name? Would it suit a baby? If not what age group do you picture with it?

Newborn sweating

My 10 day old seems to be sweating through his onesies. His nappies are dry when we change him. The temp of the room and his temp are monitored. These last few nights when I'm getting him out of his bassinet he's damp. We've taken a layer of him but we're in one layer and don't want him to be cold. Has anyone else experienced this?
