Naps

My little girl is 5 months old tomorrow and I have read that they only meant to have so many hours of daytime sleep but I kinda wanna hear people’s thoughts on capping naps or letting them sleep as and when they want to and for how long they want to?

The last nap before bed I completely understand capping that and not letting their last nap go past a certain time to protect the nighttime but I kinda feel like if she’s sleeping during the day however long she wants to even if it’s 2 hours at a time it’s because she wants the rest?

My little boy is 5 months on Saturday and I don’t cap his naps, he doesn’t tend to nap more than 30/40 mins during the day so if he does happen to do a long one I feel he must need it so leave him to it!

I try not to cap naps but I will if it’s going to affect feeding times and the rest of the days schedule. I try and do it as nicely as possible 🫣

We always let ours sleep, tried capping a few times and it was just awful! If we knew the last nap needed to be short we’d do it in the pram or carrier as he was more liable to wake up naturally when movement stopped c

I let my baby girl sleep when she wants to sleep. She also sleeps right through the night. Wakes about 6am every morning x

Id say it depends on how baby sleeps at night. My daughter wouldnt sleep at night sonwe had to cap her naps. Whereas my son sleeps v well n i just let him nap when he wants

My girl is 5 months and a serious fomo baby!!!! Can barely get 20 minute naps with all the effort in the world🫣 if she wants to sleep we let her sleep as long as she wants

My daughter is 5 months tomorrow as well! I have put her in her own room for naps since Monday and she went from 20 minutes a time up until 2 hours now. She almost had a 3 hour nap on Tuesday so I capped it at 2h 30m that was her second nap of the day and she didn’t have a third in the end.

We let him sleep as much as he needs, however we do feeds every 3hrs so if a nap crosses over with that we will still feed, sometimes he wakes and other times itll be a sleepy feed. I'd say dont bother waking the little one up, they wouldn't be sleeping if they didnt need to. Maybe if you dont already try tracking wake windows (Baby Tracker is a good app for it), it has helped us massively with knowing when he's due a sleep to avoid overtiredness x

I would say all babies are different and just go with what works for them right now. A routine will naturally come.

My LO will only have 30 min naps at a time so the whole 3 naps a day rule doesn’t work for us as his wake windows are only stretching to 2hr/2 and a half hours. Any longer than that and he declares war on us!

My LO is 5 months next week and to be honest every day is so different. Some days he’ll have 3 hours of day sleep and others 4 hours or more, completely depends on the day and night but overall looking at 24 hour period. Every day differs some times total sleep will be less than 12 hours overall and sometimes 14 hours! Zero consistency which is super frustrating but I just tend to go with the flow - he’ll only have one long nap which is usually a contact nap and falls anywhere between 11:30am - 1pm (again depending on naps in the morning) but otherwise they only last 20-40 mins max if in crib or stroller. He doesn’t sleep through the night and wakes up anywhere between 40 mins to 2 hours after being put down for bed, I’ve tried every trick in the book and nothing seems to change so I’m not going to force anything right now and hopefully a routine will come naturally as he gets older 🤞 so hard though as you crave time to yourself especially in the evenings!!

So we tried just letting her sleep as and when she wanted to and she’s slept through continuously for the past two nights 🥹🥹

Any mamas in this situation? Doc says she needs formula

Breastfed since one month old. Born (4lbs 11oz) At her two month check with my midwives they said she was doing really well with weight gain (6lbs 5oz). Now at 3 months we went to our family doctor and she is at 7lbs 6.4oz.

My doctor is concerned about weight gain but also said she’s doing great with holding her head, being attentive, etc. Dr. Said I should give formula

But what I don’t understand is my daughter always seems satisfied with feeding and doesn’t cry or fuss after. Anyone have a similar situation?

Sleep Training

Hi! I was j wondering when everyone is starting sleep training and how they are doing it? My 3mo wakes up once of a night at around 3/4am after being asleep since 10pm, and has been doing so for about a month now. I’m not sure wether that means she is ready or not? She can sometimes settle herself after being woken up from a nap after about 2-3 mins (I never leave her longer as I get scared/worried about if she starts crying) and she has a pretty decent routine during the day. Should I start sleep training? What methods are good and reliable ( I am NOT considering the cry-it out method so please do not suggest it) (Pic so I don’t get lost)

When do your children go to bed?

I just saw a post about people being lucky their kids go to bed at 7pm, the comments were filled with people saying if they sent their kids to bed at 7…they’d be up at 3:30am / 4am / 5am…why is that??

My son goes to bed at 7pm and wakes up around 8/8:30am. I do consider myself really blessed with his sleep schedule however he doesn’t nap and he’s nearly 2 🤣 he dropped his final nap when he was around 14/15 months old 💔 if it’s later please let me know! Also what time they wake up - I’m curious 👀

Baby Losing Weight ☹️

Looking for a bit of advice/reassurance from other mums who are breastfeeding.

Baby had lost almost 10% of his birth weight at his Day 5 midwife home visit. He was weighed again today at Day 7 and his total weight loss is now 11%, so I’m feeling quite disheartened.

I’m exclusively breastfeeding and he’s feeding at least every 2 hours. He seems to be latching well and we’re getting plenty of wet nappies. The midwife is coming back in 2 days to weigh him again.

I’m going to make a conscious effort to increase my food and fluid intake too.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with their baby and managed to turn the weight loss around? Would really appreciate hearing how things went for you. Thanks

Diaper help

Hey! FTM to a little boy here. Help me out. At night my little guy seems to always lee through his diaper and wet his clothes and sleep sack. I’ve tired sizing up in diapers and then back down. I’ve pointed his penis down when changing and diapering. Not too sure what’s going on. This doesn’t happen during the day? He’s getting up every two ish hours at night.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
