So my almost 2 month old has started sleeping for 5.5 hours before waking for his first feed of the night. I usually get him to bed around 10 or 11 right after pumping from both sides and bottle feeding. When he wakes up in the night, either 3:30am or 4:30am, he only eats from one boob then he's back to sleep for another 3 hours. I'll still be engorged in both when he wakes btw. So that means that only one of my boobs is getting emptied throughout the whole night. Basically my question is will this kill my supply?? In one boob or both? What about when he starts sleeping through the night do I need to wake myself up to pump once a night to keep my supply? I still feed/pump every 2 hours or so during the day. But I just don't want to kill my supply because I'm doing the night-time feeds wrong.

Your body will adjust to what baby needs. The more you pump, the more extra milk you will make. I never pump and my baby sometimes feeds once a night, sometimes 6 times a night š I only ever offer one boob per feed unless she still seems hungry and alternate boobs every feed. Your body is smart and knows when to make more or less milk. Youād be amazed how quickly it adjusts based on babies feeding! Unless youāre trying to build a freezer stash, thereās no need to pump āŗļø

Iād suggest to still pump after the baby goes back to sleep. Once the baby hits 4 or 5 months old, reevaluate and decide if you want to drop the middle of the night pump session. I had to pump once or twice during the night to keep up my supply because Iām an under supplier. My friend who has a normal supply also pumped once at night until the 4 or 5 month mark. It can be tough to increase your supply once it dips down.

When my bub does random good nights like that, I personally like to pump whatever side didn't get fed off of if I think he will be asleep for another decent stretch. Just to keep things as balanced as I can. But you absolutely don't have to, and your supply will regulate to your baby just fine.
