Toddler rage…

I took my LG to the park after picking her up from nursery today, I said it’s time to leave (I give her a 5 min then 2 min warning) and she didn’t want to go so I picked her up as she’s falling on the floor and I don’t have time to stand and ignore I had to get back to work from my dinner hour she scraped both her nails down each side of my face. Slightly embarrassed as another mum and dad just looked on (I can handle her falling about and saying no/crying) she was then hysterical so I couldn’t immediately start talking about why we don’t do that. I told her in the car mummy was upset and cross and that we don’t scratch and hurt people it’s unkind.
This is not frequent but when she has these very occasional outbursts she does bite or scratch, the screaming is inaudible and I don’t know what to do? It’s only me she does it to. Not really sure how to approach them situations? Any advice? I’m told I’m too soft when I’m explaining but I also have shouted so ???

Same age as my little girl. I’ll tell you a scenario that happened with me, more or less the same. So before I get to the park I tell her my expectations ‘ gunna play for a little while, when mummy says it’s time to go, then we need to leave the park okay?’ 5/10 mins before I give a warning, just the once and then I say okay time to go now. If she whines/complains and doesn’t listen I say to her you can either walk yourself and follow me or I’m going to pick you up, give her a few seconds to make the choice, if she doesn’t listen I pick her up, If she tries to hit me etc i will firmly say you do not hit mummy/ hands are not for hurting or whatever you wanna use, if she still tries to hurt me or is not listening I turn her body around so her arms are infront of her and say to her ‘I need to keep myself safe’. When she’s calm and you’re having connection time with her you can tell her your expectations at the park and how her behaviour was not okay and what to do instead.

You need to keep your wording as minimal and firm as possible in that moment as they’re already over stimulated so aren’t really processing our words

I have also taken a break from the park too and mentioned the reason why. If she asks to go you can say not today, have a quick recap of your expectations and then say maybe we can go tomorrow or whatever x

Hope this works for you. this has worked for me. Also you have to be consistent so if you say something to her make sure you follow through with it. If you say I’m gunna pick you up, make sure you do and don’t give her extra time to run around because she’ll know you’re not being serious x

Also validate her feelings. I know you were so happy at that park, that was really fun huh? You were sad to leave so was I but it’s important to listen to mummy’s words. Next time we can try act like princesses in the tower, how does that sound??? or whatever example works for you lol xx

It sounds like normal toddler behaviour although yes very difficult to deal with. I think explaining when she’s calm is great which you did. I sometimes use like something to look forward to don’t know if you’re meant to but like oh let’s have a snack when we get to the car or get home or something like that which often helps but you’re doing great giving timers and explaining when she’s calm we can be upset but we don’t hurt others etc

Yeah, I used to have this too. Best way I found was to plan for it by packing something in the bag, a simple snack and a small toy from home, that way after he's had plenty of play time and the last 5 mins is up, I say, 'I've got something nice for you once you're in your car seat, shall we go see what it is? And he gets excited to move on to the next part of the day. He thinks whatever it is is in the car but it's just in the bag, that way he doesn't see it before then.

On a side note, my older one, who was 4 or 5 at the time, once told me, she doesn't like it when I say 'c'mon, I gave you your 5 minute warning...' because the word warning makes her feel like she's done something wrong and makes her not want to collaborate. So now we call it, the 5 minute heads up and I think it helps both of them feel more like we're all on the same team.

Help me pleaseeeeee

I can’t believe I’m writing this but here’s the story - my boyf said he’s invited his mum over this morning as he wants to see her and she wants to see our son who’s now 10 months.

I said cool , I’m recovering from a cold and said he’ll look after me today the best as he could. Which was nice to hear.

Anyway. I didn’t think much of her visit I just got on with my day , rested a bit more and did the never ending laundry after our trip away. I was in and out the kitchen chatting a bit but very low energy.

She then decided to leave at 3:30 but , my boyfriend keeps saying you don’t have to leave if you don’t want to. She said no it’s fine and the starts to cry!!

I could hear her saying no it’s fine please don’t worry I should go. I didn’t know if I should get involved so I just said bye and left them to talk.

When she’s left I’m not having an explosive argument with my BF because it was my fault , she didn’t feel welcomed and felt like she had to leave. I’m here shouting back at him couldn’t believe what I’m hearing. And just baffled with the whole situation.

I text her saying if there as something she wanted to talk about and here she is essay texting me that she knows when she’s not welcomed.

Myself and my bf are not speaking after such an argument , huge tension in the hosue and it’s all her fault. I have no words and I don’t know what to do.

Snacks for 1 year olds

Hi everyone 👋 What are you giving your 12 month olds for snacks? I don’t know why, but my daughter is starting to chuck food on the floor and has got picky in the last couple of weeks. Things she loved, she doesn’t anymore and I’m struggling for ideas!!

Purées

My baby won’t be 4 months until October 30th. But I have been letting him taste purées and he loves them. Do you think it’s too soon to let him eat more than a spoon full? He has got great head control and sits in high chair without assistance

Sometimes I hate my husband

I feel like whenever he is in the house he disrupts our routine and doesn’t listen to me regarding baby’s schedule 🥲 sometimes he gets it right but most of the time I have anxiety when he’s “trying to help”. When I say “I don’t need help” he thinks I’m just saying it not to bother him but I’ve said it so many times I have headaches. I love him, and when I need him to make baby tired or anything he’s great, but his unwanted “help” is driving me insane.

Toddler development

My 20 month old doesn’t go to nursery he’s got a friend who’s a few months older than him but does go and I’ve noticed a massive difference.
He can count to 6 and knows his colours. How can I teach my son things like this at home?
