Hi all my kiddo is 2 1/2 and he refuses to talk. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get him to talk?! He follows everything I tell him to do he just won’t verbalize what he wants. I have contacted speech therapy and they said he didn’t qualify. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I would advise contacting speech therapy again, if they say no then ask for a second opinion, dont let them refuse you!

If speech therapy is not an option, you have to basically give him options. My son didn’t talking until he was almost 3 and that helped for us. Message me if you have questions!

my son got approved for speech therapy at 2, they taught him sign language to communicate instead of talking LOL. so I pulled him from that therapist and continued teaching him at home and talking to him normally. When he turned 3 he suddenly felt the confidence to talk and chat and put sentences together.
Up until 3 he said mama, dada, baby, yes, no, ok, doggies, truck, bike, hungry. But no words put together and when he turned 3 he suddenly talked so naturally and hasnt stopped 😂😂 Now he talks nonstop and explains everything and is an absolute socialite chatterbox.
Get him checked for tongue/lip ties, overall if hes able to understand you and get his point across/communicate otherwise he just may not feel the need yet.

I myself didn't speak till I was 5½ but when I did start speaking it was as though I always had. My son is speaking well for his age group and reading at a first grade level. I suggest definitely calling about the speach therapy again or asking for a suggestion in where to go to help get things started. Doing baby sign language definitely helps atart with communication without having to be verbal. I strongly suggest Ms.LoLo and Friends (she's a speach pathologist) and Ms.Rachel (Focuses on speach delay) singing songs they enjoy and nursery rhymes yhen letting them say one word helps with yhe independence of speach. I have 18 years of child care experience before I had my kids so there's a lot of information I've accumulated in that time.

Can I ask why he didn’t qualify for it? X
