We were eating dinner and my daughter started silently choking on chicken. I started out by just softly tapping her back and that usually works but this time it didn’t... I went into giving her back blows and with each hit got a little harder (I think it took 3 or 4 hits of those but I’m honestly not even sure) it all happened so fast. It came up and she immediately started crying and shaking. Now that my adrenaline has passed I feel so sick and just keep replaying the sound of me hitting her, I’m terrified I hurt her. I know in the end it needed to be done because if I didn’t the outcome could have been way worse but I’m just terrified she’s going to get bruises from me and I feel awful 😭 she’s okay now she’s up and playing, jumping and being crazy. I just can’t seem to calm down.

I would rather have a bruised child even a child with broken bones from how hard I hit them as long as they are alive and with me still.

You did the right thing you saved her. That's how you do cpr you got to break ribs and the risk is worth the reward

You did the right thing! When I did a first aid course I remember we really needed to hit hard to solve an obstruction, but it's for an important cause, you saved her life! She was probably crying more from the choking than the manoeuvre, being unable to breath is such a scary experience!

CPR done properly sometimes results in broken ribs. What you did is no different, you saved your baby’s life. Give yourself credit, you’re a literal life saver and an amazing mom!
