I don’t understand it when people say ‘has nesting kicked in yet’ or think of it as a stage of pregnancy that’s caused by hormones or a symptom of end of pregnancy.
Surely it’s just a product of being on maternity leave and having more time on your hands plus the actual physical need to get stuff ready for the baby and knowing for the next few years you won’t have time to clean the home properly.

I think you realise when it kicks. It just happens out of nowhere. I did not feel the instinct until I reached the 3rd trimester and one day I woke up wanting to change all floors and make lists for baby bag, nursery, hospital bag etc Nesting is something animals get, I guess it just translates into “getting ready” for the baby’s arrival. The difference is that nesting comes with a sense of urgency.

No with my first baby in the last few weeks I remember getting out of bed at 3am and emptying out the fridge and cleaning it out. I couldn't get back to sleep as I had it in my head it needed completing. Definitely not just the normal getting stuff ready 😂

I can see where you’re coming from but never have I scrubbed my cupboard doors so much as during that last week of mat leave 😭 I’m not a ‘house proud’ kind of person (much prefer just hanging out and living in a house that looks like ours) but it was definitely an urge I’ve never had before or since!
