Hi, I'm a first time mum and would like to breastfeed. I'm 23weeks and trying to buy along the way, to spread the cost and not leave everything until the last min as I'm anxious about birth.
I want to get a portable breast pump as we have an active lifestyle. What does everyone recommend? Preferably something that won't break the bank đ

I got the momcosy m5 pumps - think they were around 100 when I got them but also know people who have just got cheapish no brand pumps from amazon and they have worked really well!

I bought the Elvie Stride double pump from Next - you can pay it off in installments

I'm just here to see what people recommend because I'm 38+3 and still haven't bought my pump because I just don't know which one to get!
I don't trust anything the TikTok ads say because they're just that... ads and of course people are going to endorse the one they're insentivised to!
From my own research I am between the Momcosy M5, the MomMed S21 and the FetalPlus Air Pro.
I can use some vouchers in Boots to get the Momcosy for the same price as the MomMed and the FetalPlus.
What I've been looking for is which are quieter as I think I'll probably pump one side while little girl feeds the other and strength of the pump and the MomMed and FetalPlus seem to come out tops... I just struggle to commit because ÂŁ100 at this point to get it wrong is a lot of money!

I am 37 weeks and not bought a pump yet! Due to uncertainty over supply and how useful itâll be. I donât want to spend ÂŁ150+ if my supply is bad and I canât pump. My NCT midwife recommended renting a medela pump which is hospital grade. Itâs ÂŁ49 a month so will see how I get on with that in month one before investing the money in one of my own. In case thatâs a useful tip for you also!

I would honestly wait until baby is here, I know you want to spread the cost but really, you might not even need one.
I know you said you have an active lifestyle, but what does that mean? Or when do you envision pumping and needing it to be portable? Because you can't really be out and about pumping very easily, there's a vent hole in the top of the pump so if you bend over it leaks đ it's much easier to breastfeed when on the go.
I would say to get a cheap hand pump before baby is here though

Hospital grade pumps all the way!
I used a handsfree Nuliie pump for convenience but the suction quality is poorer when it comes to wearable pumps in general. I made this mistake for the first few weeks postpartum and gaslit myself into thinking I wasn't supplying enough.
I purchased the medela swing maxi later on.
However, pumping on the go isn't for everyone, so may I suggest building a supply up in your fridge and taking your bottled milk with you on days out, whilst always offering breast first. As the convenience of flopping a boob out when adventuring is so much better than walking around pumping and filling bottles when you just want to shop/walk in the park etc.
Also, don't quote me on this. But, I was recommended not to pump for the first few weeks PP as you can begin to over supply, which sounds great, but has its challenges.
Have a good look into wearable pumps if you feel that is your way forward, but I recommend grabbing a Hospital grade one to compare. Vinted will give you the best deals â€ïž
