Breastfeeding

My baby is 6 days old and was due today, a May turned April baby!

Anyway, he was so sleepy during the days up until today, feeding all night. We saw the midwife yesterday on day 5 who said we should be waking him to feed every 2 hours, get him naked, annoy him until he feeds. We did that yesterday (albeit maybe more than every 2 hrs) then yesterday evening whilst my husband was bathing my almost 3 yr old (maybe about 7pm), the baby woke and fed, and fed and fed until about 1am when he was so fussy at the breast, I’d had enough and felt like he’d drunk me dry! I was in tears, so tired, frustrated and depleted. I passed the baby to my husband, who managed to settle him to sleep for a while so I could rest. I realise this is cluster feeding but it didn’t seem like he was getting anything, just us both getting more and more frustrated.

This has carried on into today, I feel like there’s no milk there for him. I am engorged, I’ve been massaging the breast, swapping sides and it seems the latch is good. He just doesn’t seem to get the good flow that he started with yesterday evening. He’s on and off like a yo yo, getting so so fussy, hands everywhere, shaking his head, screaming at me. It’s not nice.

It’s taken me a while to write this because he has been so on and off and fussy. It seems he’s had a good amount now because he’s just literally become the most content he’s been all day, and actually fallen sound asleep for one of the first times today.

Anyone else had this, is it normal?
Anything I’m doing wrong?

I struggled to breastfeed my first and supplemented with formula early and pumped etc but I’m reluctant to resort to formula unless I really need to. He’s being weighed again tomorrow and we have some feeding support at the hospital so hopefully get some answers but just thought I’d ask here too.

Is he kicking his legs when he comes of the boob ?

Did baby lose weight on Day 5?

This is really normal. I know it's not nice but the screaming at the boob and cluster feeding constantly is him having his first growth spurt and basically telling the boobie to start producing even more milk.

Days 4-7 are the hardest for cluster feeding and after that it does start to get easier after baby has "put their order in".

Their circadian rhythm isn't established yet so they will feed whenever they want to, which annoyingly is usually at night 😂

You're doing so well and I promise it gets easier. Xxx

Did the sleep trend change while i wasnt looking?

From my perspective, 4-5 years ago everyone was all about schedules and structures and Moms On Call and ferber method sleep training. As soon as my son was born early 2025, it felt like a huge shift in attitude. People were horrified / thought we were idiots for being on a schedule, i have been insulted for not baby wearing, and i have been talked to by MANY people like im a neglegent mother for rarely contact napping or bed sharing or when we started ferber.

Judge away if you must, maybe its always been this way, but it really feels like there was a huge shift in how we mamage contact and sleep.

What age was your first child when you had your second?

What age do think is best for your child to be before you have another one?

I can’t believe some of you let your babies watch Ms Rachel 🤬

Instead of letting your babies sit in front of the telly watching Ms Rachel…
Try educational alternatives like Deal or no Deal, we’re having a blast 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sleeping

I am a FTM and my little girl is 4 months old, we have found recently that we have been disturbing her in the night we if get up for a drink or the loo. Does anyone have any tips, she Currently is in a next to me with all the sides up. We have even tried putting it away from our bed just incase we were knocking her. Don't really want to put her into her own room yet but don't want to keep disturbing her in the night, it's been a month and can't seem to find a way to stop disturbing her. She's normally a wake up once a night girl but at the minute it's 4/5 times

6 month naps

How often are your babies napping? I really thought we’d cracked it the past few days, she’s been having 3 naps, first 1 shortish, second nap usually quite long and last nap is usually a cat nap to bridge to bedtime.
Recently, she’s gone back to 4 even 5 naps a day! I think it’s because she’s been waking earlier and her first nap has been shorter than usual.

Transition from next to me cot to bedroom

So my little one is 4 months, and she’s a big girl! She’s starting to outgrow her next to me but I’m worried she’s too little to be in her own room yet (tbh it’s more I’m not ready yet) but when did you guys move baby to their own room and how did the transition go?
