Hi! I have been told by a doctor that my 4 week old may have colic, I am a first time mum and not sure what to do!
My baby is very clingy and will not settle, this is not a massive problem for me as it’s great for bonding but can be overwhelming at times and also hard to get things done.
We use colief drops in his formula milk and cannot tell if it’s helping, any advice from mums who are going though this or have before would be great and much appreciated x

I have and am going theough this n the colic was awful. For the current baby going through it colief drops helped. Do you put them in every bottle and the right amount of drops? Just checking. Also I do mam bottles but have tried and failed dr browns which suprised me as dr brown bottles alone helped my baby who suffered previously. Also making sure to get the wind up some babies have extra wind.. I have a very windy baby and infacol can help too

Colic robbed me of my beginning of motherhood… its not for the faint hearted and i really do feel for you!! I used to Colief drops and i noticed a difference after 6 weeks. Just takes time! I switched to mam bottles and used the drops in every bottle
I spent alot of my time out walking and in the fresh air, was the only time it really seemed to settle her, bicycle kicks and tummy massages helped with any trapped wind and ease of tummy aches when she scrunched up and going to baby groups at the local family centre seemed to help distract her.
I used to also do a warm bath then bottle and bed in a room that had red light and white noise machines to help settle her during the witching hour period
I really do feel for you, colic is horrid but remember it doesn’t last forever ❤️

I agree to all of the above mentioned. Fresh air and on the move helped but also my baby preferred the carseat on wheels maybe the position and screamed in carrycot or preferred being on me in baby carrier. Ergo baby carrier is so comfy to wear defo recommend that one. Tummy massages too and holding baby to my shoulder alot more.

We tried everything from drops to prescribed cmpa milk and only thing that helped medication wise was gripe water, only really took the edge off though.
The best things that got us through this were baths, belly massages for wind and reggae, specifically Bob Marley. Hahaha he was my life saver during the colic days. Also we were giving her the wrong flow teat and sorting that did make a difference.
So sorry you’re going through this it takes the whole newborn experience away from you but once she got to like 3/4 months it gradually stopped and then one day around that age it was just gone?? Weirdest thing but it will pass!!!!! Best advice I got was take it day by day bc I just stressed myself out more trying so many new things. But also easier said than done when ure a new mum. Shes now 6 months old and is the happiest baby ever, I really didn’t think I’d ever see the day!
Good luck! You’ll be out the trenches sooner than you know it and it will be BLISS🥹

Lots of good advice here. My second son has had horrendous colic, from weeks 8 to 15 ish. He is starting to get better now and I am not sure if he has just outgrown it / his digestive system has developed, or if its because I cut egg out of my diet because I suspected an allergy (breastfed baby). Just do what you can for your sanity. I think my baby having colic had a huge effect on me and my ability to bond with him, because he cried all day every day and barely anything would stop the screaming. Hopefully better days are ahead for you soon.
