C-Section

Hi all

On the 20th I have a csection booked due to some complications which is going to be done under GA. What is everyone’s experience with csection under GA and do they use a breathing tube? How long does it take to come around from GA

I had a category 1 emergency under GA so slightly different as it wasn’t planned.
But I can still offer some words as I experienced it.

It took me around 30 mins after my son was born to come round, I believe. I had no previous surgery experience and I’ll admit I didn’t even know they had to use a breathing tube (silly I know 🙈😂) I only found out about 3/4 days after when I said I had a little bit of a sore throat and the midwife said yes that have been from the breathing tube 🙈 so yes I believe it’s likely they will use one for you.

I was pretty ‘out of it’ for a good few hours after surgery x

I had a cat 3 c section in november which was half spinal and epidural and half GA. The GA was needed but i needed ITU due to my body having complications from the GA. I was in there for over 6 hours. I had respiratory failure and hypoxia. For days afterwards i couldnt eat without it hurting. I also spent a whole night trying to manage sickness in itu. I couldnt keep water down. They believe that was from the general.
They would of used a breathing tube. But once i was round which took me a while due to respiratory failure. I could feel everything and did all my own bed transfers for an ambulance to another hospital for ITU. But i did wake up in my hospital bed after being put to sleep on the table

i had a cat 2 GA due to unable to get numb after long labour and long timr on epidural.
I believe i had a breathing tube as they held my throat whilst going under and i had a cough and sore throat when i woke. I think from my notes it took me about half an hour to wake but probably a bit longer to come round fully.
Its a very strange feeling coming round and seeing your baby.
Make sure your birthing partner knows your birth plan, feeding plan etc and how to feed and what you want to dress baby in. My partner changed, dressed and fed baby before i come round.

You’re also allowed to be a little emotional about being under GA. It’s a weird feeling and taking the extra time to come round fully is very hard emotionally. So feel your feelings they are valid, but remember its to keep baby and you as safe as possible. If you’re not feeling this way then amazing.

Hey I’ve had GA a few times now. It’s not scary really. It just feels like you’re falling to sleep and then waking up again, you do feel groggy but they give you good pain relief which helps for a good few hours.
I had an elective section 3 weeks ago and honestly I didn’t like being awake for it. It felt so uncomfortable and I was on edge the whole time. If I had known this I think I would have asked for GA. The other good thing about GA is you don’t need a spinal block. I’ve still got a numb / sore back weeks later from having the spinal & I hated the feeling of not feeling my legs …
I think you’ll be just fine 🩷

I had both of my babies under GA.
As soon as you’re stitched up they stop the GA so within 20 mins or so you should come round. I didn’t feel any pain from the breathing tube after wards.
Be prepared to be extremely drowzy for the majority of that day, I did struggle to stay awake at any point and my memory of parts of the day is hazy.
Give your phone to the midwife, they’ll take pictures of baby as soon as it’s born if everything is ok ☺️
All in all you’ll go to sleep and wake up with a baby and any worries or issues will be forgotten 😃 x

Overlap tummy after c section

So I had my second elective c section. My first went very well, my tummy went back to how it was literally the very first week. I’ve always had a flat tummy and being size 8-10. This time I still feel bloated and the skin is over lapping where the incision is. Will my stomach go back how it used to be?. I was just wondering how other mums second c section went.

C-section Scar

I am almost 6 weeks postpartum and my c-section is starting to hurt again. There no redness or anything, just pain. Is that normal? My OB said it was healing nicely and that he wasn’t concerned at my two week appointment.

Experience of NHS maternity care so far

I know maternity care is very much a hot topic at the minute, im wondering what everyone’s experience been like so far? I have found it quite good, my main complaint being how awful badgernotes has been🥲

C-section/franks breach.

C-section - is it scary? I hate hospitals & needles so absolutely terrified but baby’s franks breach and we’re 37 weeks 😮 anyone else been or is in this position? Baby’s head is up under my ribs and very uncomfortable- they’ve tried ecv once and attempting again tomorrow. If no luck they book me in for 39 weeks. 😮
