This may be a silly question, but how do you ask for a sick note?
I’ve been experiencing debilitating exhaustion. l have low iron, a thyroid disorder and had high levels of sugar in my wee at my last midwife appointment. I’ve been feeling generally unwell, having chest pain, shortness of breath etc etc and frequent diarrhoea, I’m not sure if it’s because I can’t tolerate the iron meds (I have tried Spatone too) or because my thyroid meds possibly need readjusting. My midwife has requested lots of blood tests and also wants be to do a glucose test to rule out gestational diabetes.
How do you request a sick note from the GP? would I have to book a routine appointment or? I have luckily been off this week but the thought of having to go back to work next week is just😩😩 I can barely do anything at the moment without needing to lay down.

You can either book a phone call appointment with them or I’m sure you can request one on the part where you can ask the doctor a question. Just explain in detail like you have now on this and it should be enough. Feel better x

Just book a normal appointment and explain everything and they will sign you off (probably for 2 weeks as you can self certify for a week anyway). Then if you need longer you can just call and ask for it to be extended. I’ve been signed off a couple of times and never been told no!

I’m unsure about a sick note, but this week I got a note from my midwife to my workplace on flexible working arrangements so shorter hours, more WFH, so now I have a backup, I’m sure you can get something similar, you need to take care of yourself and your body.

My doctors have a website where you can request a sick note, a doctor then follows up with a call to agree a time period with you.
I was feeling the same a few weeks back. I am also struggling with my iron/ferritin and b12 levels.. as well as having a busy job and home life. It all just felt a little too much. I combined some annual leave with my sick note and took 2.5 weeks off. Xxx
