Best post C-section advice

I have 3 kids now, my first 2 were delivered vaginally but the third was a c-section 1 week ago because he was breach. I'm feeling very lost when it comes to how to care for the incision and things that are normal while healing and things to look out for. I am also wondering if there is any advice on getting around, in and out of bed, sleeping positions, and just general daily life.

Stay on top of your pain killers - I took advil and then two hours later Tylenol so you never go more than 2 hours without pain killers, drink lots of coconut water for hydration, move as much as you can / is safe as movement helps recovery and once the wound is healed get some silicone scar gel. Good luck!

Just keep your wound dry and clean. Wash your body normally, just don’t scrub the wound with soap. Let the water do its job then pat it dry. I used a hair dryer on it to dry it faster.

Cotton full brief knickers help it stay dry and airy, plus they are super comfy.

Stay mobile, mobility is key to recovery and lessens your pain as the week goes on.

Drink plenty of water and eat well. Your body is recovering and good fuel is what it needs. Have snacks to hand 😊

Sleep however you want, whatever is comfiest. Getting out of bed, roll to your side, legs over the edge and push up to sitting with your arm.

Stay on top of your pain killers really helps, sounds simple enough but I struggled with this and had to set alarms to take them.

Stay mobile, short walks when you feel able to but balanced with rest too!

As far as scar care, my biggest bit of advice would be to get comfortable with it. It's easier said than done, I was very squeamish about it for the first couple weeks but in order to care for it properly you need to be comfortable touching it to clean it in the shower with a gentle perfume free soap (I just used a standard bar of dove soap) drying it, looking at it in the mirror to make sure it's looking clean and healing properly. It's normal for it to feel sensitive or tingling at times and will be normal for a long time. I'm 15 month pp and still occasionally get a little tingle!

Get some high waist soft cotton underwear and avoid clothing that irritates it. High waisted everything 😂 for the next few weeks sneezing, laughing, coughing might feel a little sore, compression works a treat with this!

I used a little pillow to compress my scar when I could. Also helpful for bending down/standing up in the first few weeks when you have hands free 😊

I slept upright for about 4 weeks just because it was the most comfortable position for me! My nursing pillow doubled as a sort of "travel pillow" which ended up being very comfortable! It was also easy for me to get out of bed when I needed to! When I began sleeping flat again I did so in small increments, so through the night I would alternate after getting up to do a feed or whatever.

I found it helpful to make sure things I needed were at waist height for the first couple of weeks too!

It does get better fairly quickly and things start feeling a lot easier by week 2-3! Obviously I only have experience with 1 child so things might feel different for you having 3. Good luck and you've got this!!

I was advised to use a fan on my scar a few times a day to help keep it dry

Perineal massages

Hey everyone

I’m 38+3 weeks and I tried doing perineal massages for a little (one day) and found it so hard to reach and uncomfortable but that was a while ago now.

I’ve been having baths, raspberry leaf tea, collecting colostrum, having dates, walking, resting and bouncing on my exercise ball.

I am worried not having been doing perineal massages and pelvic floor exercises that I’m then missing big bits out.

It would be great to know if people found it helped doing them and if there’s any other tips you’d recommend in the lead up to labour?

Prep for recovery/ recovery kits

Is there anything that you would recommend buying to prepare for the recovery e.g. support band, scar patches?
Anything else you found helpful?

Thank you!

Contractions? Or braxton hicks?

The midwife said the 4am could’ve dipped because I hadn’t slept at all.
The 10am picked up to similar to 10pm but don’t have a photo of that end of the trace . When the midwife took me of the monitors I was having a tightening that read up to 60 and took my breath away.

My thought is that surely braxton hicks down last over 18 hours ?

14 hours of contractions

I’ve had 14 hours of contractions since 9pm last night, have not slept, they last for around 1 minute and every 8min or so. I called triage and they said not to come in until it’s 2-3 min apart. How can it be 14 hours already of this? Is this normal? Each contraction is intense! My first baby.
