Early reassurance scan

Hi all! I’ve just joined the app, and seen some bits about people who have booked early scans learning that they’re up to weeks behind what they thought! I would’ve thought it might be off by a few days but not weeks! Is this really common then? We have a scan booked next Sunday and we should be 7 weeks 2 days, hoping it’s accurate and we’ll see what we hope to!

Hope everyone’s well and the early days of pregnancy are treating you well! I’m getting a fair bit of nausea and I’m exhausted but no actual vomiting yet so long may that continue! 😊

Congratulations! Yes, it’s very normal, sometimes the baby will catch up once you get to your 12 week scan and it can balance out or sometimes you did just ovulate later than you thought! That’s why they usually suggest to wait a little bit longer with an early scan just incase but you should be all good :) xx

Interesting! Hoping waiting until 7 weeks 2 days is long enough then! Fingers crossed! Thank you ☺️ xx

Hi. It was my post earlier today about finding out I was only 5w3days. I have heard from the people at the scan that it is common if your cycle is longer than 28days. As that is what they base how far along you are on the NHS (until you have a dating scan). However I only had 4 full cycles since coming off birth control (my cycles ranged from 26days to 45days). Hence me ovulating a fair bit later than the “standard” the nhs expect. It can be disheartening (it happened to me twice), but a check is still worth it to make sure everything looks as it should for whatever stage you are at xx

Really hope that helps x

(Also i was told that even if you know the date you conceived you can’t base it on that anyway because of how long sperm can live before egg is actually fertilised)

on top of the ovulation piece, it's common because it's SO small that early on, getting precise measurements are really really hard. sometimes it is unfortunately an early sign of a miscarriage but it's usually just imprecision - our tech can't be that precise with measurements so early. don't worry 🙂

I had the same on my early scan, I thought I was 8 weeks exactly but was 6+4 ovulation is always after period so wont always be correct xx

Congratulations! I was quite lucky as I was only 1 day early when I expected to be way off as my period weren’t in sync at all! Xx

Ah thanks so much everyone! We will see then! I think as much as possible it’s more likely to be more accurate/closer because my cycles are usually 26 days average and are pretty regular, so hopefully it’s not far off correct!
Just hoping it’ll give me some reassurance really because we’ve been TTC for a long time and had a previous chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks so just pretty nervous! X
