Hey guys I don’t know if this is a coincidence but my LO has turned 1 this week. When I asked her to touch her head she did it. Then I asked 5 more times randomly and she did it again.
My question is when do babies start understanding things? Are your LO saying any words intentionally yet?

My little one has just started saying no and shaking her head. When she is finished eating she’ll shake her head and say no. Also says no when I tell her it’s time for a nappy change 😂 she’ll also clap her hands when you ask her. It’s very cute!
That’s fantastic!

I think they understand quite a lot even earlier!
Mine doesn't have any words besides occasional bye-bye but his non-verbal communication and comprehension has been quite amazing for a good few months.
For example, if I ask him if he needs a poo, he'll always try for one (tense up his tummy and strain) and 2 out of 3 times succeeds in doing one.
Or if he wants something, he'll point to it and if I hand him a wrong thing he'll shake his head for "no", and will repeat that until I finally hand him the thing he wanted.
So yes, I think babies understand us quite well long before they start to talk! Xx

I think babies understand loads, long before the can talk. In the last few months my little one has definitely started communicating a lot more so I actually know he understands, which means he probably understood months before that. He will sign all done when he's finished eating, touch his head or nose or someone else's when asked, will walk to the bath, or the door, or the kitchen etc if I say that's where we're going next, say no, no, no when he doesn't want something, mama/dada if he wants one of us, and lots of other little things that definitely show understanding of what's going on. I think that's why so many little ones get frustrated, because they've understood for so long but sometimes struggle to communicate it because the words don't quite match their level of comprehension.
I'm so excited for this next year or so where they learn more and more words and actions and just develop more into tiny little people ❤️

I think they have a lot more comprehension at this age, I asked my baby to pick out Hank goes peck so we could read together (her favourite book) and she crawled over to the bookcase and got it out. Or I asked her to find her turtle toy and she went and found it in the box of toys 🤯

my boy started doing this since 11ish mths (or more so understood questioning) now he is 12mths can recognise animals, his toys, body parts, will go find things.. he’s also got very good at throwing
today he comprehended how to make animal sounds and repeat after me, some he knows from all my yapping 😅
but yeah they start to understand sooner than we know so eventually when they respond it seems like a big jump - no words here yet!
i think the next few weeks/months is when the rapid progression starts

They understand from very young. Hence being encouraged to talk to them in the womb. Thats so they can recognise voices.
My son can follow simple instructions like clapping, dancing, blowing kisses etc.
So your daughter is on par with it all. The learning started long ago. And isn’t it just so so cute lol
