Shein clothes

Im starting to look at getting some clothes. My partner doesn't like the idea of clothes from Shien because of the possible chemicals. Has anyone ever had any issues with baby clothes from them?

I agree with your partner

Yes I’d avoid SHEIN and temu - recommend Vinted or even H&M do nice decent priced clothes

I agree with your partner. You can find cheap bundles second hand on Marketplace and Vinted, usually better brands

Go 100% cotton if you can💚

Ive been gifted a few clothes from SHEIN and in all honesty they might come up a bit cheaper but after one wash they always seem to bobble and look a bit tatty to me. I’ve always found supermarket clothes so much better my favourite is probably George. I think they are fairly priced and I’ve managed to use majority for both my girls and some things still look brand new even after several washes.

We have the rule that clothes aren't to be bought from shein/temu, but if someone gives us handmedowns that we like that happen to be shein, we accept it. We also buy other bits that aren't clothes from shein - inflatables, memory bits (photo frame, books, milestone props etc)
I'm also not against shein for myself, so a lot more of the stuff I need comes from shein now

The shein material is awful - places like Primark and the supermarkets are much better

Avatar

if you want to save money - vinted is the best place to look. don’t risk babies health on shein clothes

Avatar

The material isn't great and I found that the breastfeeding access isn't great either.
If you're ok with second hand, why not check out Vinted? I got some seraphine bits there, they were in great condition and are much better quality than shein

I bought from shein u can find cotton stuff and lots of gadgets for cheap. All other shops like zara and h&m sell the same materials.

Avatar

I’d definitely avoid! Both for you and their child labour and environmental practices (the latter you can get around with Vinted shopping but chemicals not necessarily, although same concern with most cheaper brands)

Avatar

They contain so much lead - definitely do not let babies wear them. It’ll come out soon that they’re carcinogenic I can guarantee it. They’re so cheap for a reason 😩

Avatar

I got a few on temu like dungarees, romper and I do agree about the chemicals… maybe wash multiple times but personally I don’t think I’ll buy again as even with one heavy wash I think my baby reacted to one of the rompers.

I bought some clothes for my baby from shein but when they came I didn’t like the feeling of the material it just felt really cheap, I buy clothes for myself from shein and have on occasion bout some tops for my 3 year old just mess about clothes really that have been fine but the baby clothes felt cheap and the sizing was way off I bought 0-3 months she’s nearly 5 months now and they’re still too big

Avatar

I’ve been gifted some from SHEIN but the material is absolutely horrible and we haven’t used them. I wouldn’t wear material that feels like that so won’t make my children wear them.

Avatar

The materials awful. Tesco is great for kids clothes and vinted x

Avatar

If I'm gifted clothes from shein/ temu they go straight in the donation pile. I buy cleaner brands off vinted or in sales on some lines.

Avatar

What about clothes from temu ?

Avatar

I've purchased clothes from temu in the past for like my baby niece and is that a good idea ?

Avatar

They don't follow safety regulations, are poorly made and may contain chemicals not safe for baby. I would seriously avoid. I've bought cheap bundles off vinted. Lots of Next M&S Zara etc. Or I've found Primark good for basics!

Avatar

I agree with your partner, samples of shein clothes, including kids clothing, have been found to contain hazardous chemicals above safe limits. The chemicals found included pfas and phthalates,, I would never shop from there x

Avatar

Don’t do it! So many heavy metals in the clothing which can delay a lot of their neurological growth/milestones over time.

Avatar

We have bought clothes from Temu, Shein and AliExpress no issues other than sizing for adults

Avatar

Better going with Vinted or charity shops. If you want to buy new Tesco/asda/saisnburys often have nice stuff in

Avatar

No don’t do it! Get second hand off Vinted cheaper and safer

Avatar

I personally wouldn't buy any clothes for myself or my baby from Shein, Temu etc due to the chemicals. But I know many people do. Think it's down to personal choice. If you are looking for a bargain (baby clothes can be expensive!) I can highly reccomend vinted. Have got some beautiful bits of there and lots of people put bundles of clothes on. Happy shopping!

Avatar

There was a recent article about SHEIN clothes being toxic for babies because of chemicals. If you’re on a budget, I’d recommend ThredUp. Quality stuff at a discount.

Avatar

I’ve got a few clothes from shein for my girl but it’s mostly stuff that she would wear for a couple of hours. I didn’t make her wear anything from there as a baby but now at 4-5 months old I have a few items.

She seems fine with it (in the sense that she has not had an allergic reaction or anything) but most of her clothes are from m&s and Primark etc and those are the brands she wears more regularly. It’s really your choice if you want to buy it or not

I buy from shein for myself but very rarely for her. Vinted is a great place to buy from if you’re looking to buy stuff on a budget.

Avatar

I would never buy from those companies for myself and certainly never for a child

Avatar

I personally don’t see the point in buying cheap clothes , yes they may be cheap but if you have to constantly buy them because they don’t last you’re not really gaining anything or saving as such …

NAPPY/DIAPER PREFERENCE

So I’ve been trying out different nappies to find the best for baby girl. With my eldest daughter I used pampers and they were rubbish so I didn’t bother with them and switched to Aldi nappies and only used Aldi nappies with my son. Huggies are a no go for me.

So far number 3 (rascals) have been working the best for baby girl with number 4 in close second.

Which nappies if any of these have you found the best for your LOs?

1. Tesco (Fred and Flo)
2. Asda (Little Angels)
3. Most supermarkets (Rascals)
4. Aldi (Mamia)

If you have any other suggestions for other brands please feel free to drop a comment 🩷

Toddler discipline...is it only spanking that works!?

My son is 2 in August and of course being very difficult now. I follow parenting clips online with Deborah tilman and she is great. No kid beating involved. But the comments are then full of people saying the kid needs spanking...
I have to admit gentle parenting won't really work on my son he doesn't want negotiations and explanations, he needs natural consequences as he just doesn't listen or understand. But I don't want to hit him...
For example bath time has become a fight so last night I just dumped him in still crying and washed him anyway, no messing.
Is there somewhere between spanking (illegal in the UK where I am) and gentle parenting?

Burping a newborn

Does anyone have any tips for burping a newborn. My baby is 2 weeks old and breastfed, and I've been really struggling to get any good burps out of him.

I know that breastfed babies generally have less gas, but sometimes he does the little gassy smile or scrunches his knees up & no matter what I try I can't get a burp out of him. He's also very fussy and wriggly when I get him into any burping position.

GHIC card for baby

Has anyone successfully applied for this for their baby? The NHS page says you need a NI number which obviously I don’t have for my baby. Otherwise it says I can add family members to my
own application, but I already have a card. Hope someone can help!

I felt something toward my toddler I'm ashamed of 😭

Not just frustration. something heavier. after they hurt the baby again. the love is completely still there — and so is this other thing that I've been carrying alone. I haven't told anyone because I don't know how to explain it. anyone else felt something they couldn't name in that moment? 💙
