Does anyone have any tips for burping a newborn. My baby is 2 weeks old and breastfed, and I've been really struggling to get any good burps out of him.
I know that breastfed babies generally have less gas, but sometimes he does the little gassy smile or scrunches his knees up & no matter what I try I can't get a burp out of him. He's also very fussy and wriggly when I get him into any burping position.

Over your shoulder worked when mine was a newborn, put them on your knee in a seated position and just straighten their spine, that also worked

We struggled so much to get a burp out of our EBF boy in the early weeks and he had a terrible time with loads of wind poor thing! We looked up some videos on YouTube and some of those worked really well but we needed to try about 5 things each time and one of them would work. My partner also came up with a technique that worked where he laid him on his back and circle his legs together clockwise a few times then brings him upright. Generally the more often and longer you can have them upright the more likely you’ll get a burp eventually!
Also I think good to get them upright as soon as you can after feeding, so no falling asleep on the boob which is sad 😅

Rubbing your hand firmly from the top of their bum up their back while they’re over your shoulder helped us but we found my son needed to fart far more than burp!
We seen an osteopath who showed us lots of ways to help him pass wind and it changed our baby entirely he was much happier x

We were told not to burp a breastfed baby, so with both of ours we just put them over our shoulders until one came naturally

Infacol! Mine would refuse to burp without it for ages.
I just put my daughter on my shoulder and rubbed her back for 5 to 10 minutes. Or on my knee head on my hand and a light pat.

I wouldn't bother, squirming and stuff is normal and not necessarily a sign of trapped wind. I just held mine upright or popped in the carrier and one would sometimes come out. But I've never actively burped

On your shoulder, tap her back and walk. The walking is the key part I found

My little one was the same, we found that gentle taps on the back and rubbing but more often than not she didn’t need to be burped. We did also find that sitting her on our knee, holding her head and doing circular motions with her entire body managed to get burps out

Thanks everyone! I spoke to the Health Visitor about it today and she suggested a lot of the same positions, but said if we don't get a burp after five mins or so, to just leave it because they probably don't need to burp very badly
