Anyone here has had an experience with an elective c section at a specified time like 12:30 in the afternoon just to be told that the 'schedule changed' so now they are asking you to come in at 8am for 8:30 surgery?
But wait theres more...this was scheduled on a Wednesday, confirmed on a Friday for Monday surgery and you have a toddler...

Yea unfortunately this happens all the time.

Mine changed twice. Once because I developed ICP so week 39 became week 38 then the pathology lab had a strike so it ended up week 37. I somehow had the angel who ran daycare picking my toddler up in the hospital foyer on her commute to work as I was checking in at 6.30am. She went into daycare and my mum landed at midday and picked her up.
It’s pretty normal. The theatre diaries are organised chaos but emergencies happen, staff rotas change, theatres end up being used for other issues.

All my C-sections are scheduled. And not one of them ever had that happened. My oldest was scheduled for 8am, had to be there at 6am. He was born at 8:22am
My middle was scheduled for if I remember correctly 2pm had to be there at noon, but he came three weeks early.
My youngest(current pregnancy) is scheduled for 4pm, have to there at 2pm.
I know with my sister in laws induction they changed the date of when she needs to come on cause they didn’t have a room for her. But mine have never been changed.

Yes, mine wasn't even scheduled based on the time but the date. Then it was like on call instead of a specific time.

The best time to get them ti schedule it is in the early morning lol so pre op 6-7am surgery 30 mins after whichever time. I've have 3 schedule and if its later in morning or evening your going to be rescheduled do to emergencies.
So they want you to come in on Monday?

Yep!! Unfortunately they have emergency’s so things change. Similar happened to me and I was waiting around 12 hours to finally go in. It’s rubbish but just know it’s for a good reason

Well they save people lives and have to prioritise accordingly based on risk for mums and babies. You never know if you might need an emergency op and then you’d not want to wait especially if your baby is at risk. So although it’s inconvenient, we need to respect that their decisions are of such significance and they save many lives daily.
I myself had my c section scheduled for 29th May. Then they moved it to 28th May - I didn’t mind it. I even offered flexibility. And I ended up having an emergency c section on 24th May after having a significant bleeding out of the blue due to placenta previa and being taken by ambulance.

Didn’t happen to me personally as I was an emergency but my best friend was delayed for 3 days because of emergencies like mine. Infuriating and stressful for her because she was nil by mouth every time but being an emergency myself, my boys heart rate was dropping and I was under the knife within 20 mins and her entire perspective changed. I can sympathise with the need to rearrange, someone else’s slot probably saved my baby and I think it’s important to remember that rearrangement of that appointment is for a genuine reason. Stay positive ❤️ x
