Is this normal for a doctor to talk like this?

Am I overreacting or would this interaction with my doctor upset you too? 😅

To give some context
I’ve honestly been avoiding the scale a little this pregnancy because it gives me anxiety.

Today I had an appointment and finally got weighed, and I got worried because I gained more than I thought I had. I asked my doctor if it was normal and if there was anything I could do or any recommendations he had.

At first I also asked him about some sciatic/joint pain and pressure I’ve been feeling, and he was already coming across kind of cold and dismissive. But when I asked about the weight gain, the conversation got really intense.

He basically told me “you know how to eat healthy,” and when I tried explaining that pregnancy has changed my body, hunger levels, cravings, etc., and that I was just looking for guidance/reassurance, he got very harsh. He kept saying he’s “not a nutritionist,” and then eventually told me I was “hurting my baby,” being “selfish,” that I had “mental problems,” “body dysmorphia,” and needed therapy.

At that point I started crying because of how he was talking to me, and he still kept going. My husband even stepped in and tried to soften the conversation.

Now I honestly don’t know if I’m overreacting because hormones/emotions are high right now
or if that was actually not okay bedside manner from a doctor?

No you’re definitely not overreacting at all. If it were me, I’d 100% be looking for a new provider.

I would look into seeing another doctor. My doctor never even mentioned my weight once, of course they will encourage you to make healthy choices, but the other comments are totally unnecessary.

I would look for someone else if that’s possible for you but def reporting him. Thats unprofessional and what he is NOT is a psychologist that can just diagnose or throw terms at you like body dysmorphia. Please don’t let him get to you. And your husband should have shut that down way earlier

100% would’ve reported him, he seems very unprofessional. On the other hand the joint pain and pressure is most likely from you gaining more weight so try doing light exercise or eating foods with less calories and more fiber/ protein should help. (Protein for muscle and fiber for the bathroom) depending on your craving you might need to ignore them if they are too unhealthy BUT just because you eat healthy doesn’t mean your going to loose weight.

No. Your not overreacting. I will find some else. You deserve a better Dr.

Birth - high blood pressure

Did anyone here have high blood pressure throughout pregnancy? (Even before!) and what did your birth look like?

It’s something I’ve suffered with forever but is only being brought up now as I’m 20+ weeks pregnant

How on earth do people get through that first trimester while looking after a 2 year old lol

High blood pressure

I just got diagnosed with pregnancy induced hypertension and been put on a double dose of meds; was planning on a birth centre birth;

triage at hospital said it should be okay but midwife is unsure I will qualify 😭

most annoying thing is I’ve been mentioning that my usually low blood pressure has been higher than normal and you could see it getting higher with every appointment but got told it’s not over the threshold; maybe if they listened it could’ve been managed earlier 😭

Has anyone qualified for the birth centre with blood pressure medication if it stabilised while on it?
