Am I overreacting or would this interaction with my doctor upset you too? đ
To give some context⊠Iâve honestly been avoiding the scale a little this pregnancy because it gives me anxiety.
Today I had an appointment and finally got weighed, and I got worried because I gained more than I thought I had. I asked my doctor if it was normal and if there was anything I could do or any recommendations he had.
At first I also asked him about some sciatic/joint pain and pressure Iâve been feeling, and he was already coming across kind of cold and dismissive. But when I asked about the weight gain, the conversation got really intense.
He basically told me âyou know how to eat healthy,â and when I tried explaining that pregnancy has changed my body, hunger levels, cravings, etc., and that I was just looking for guidance/reassurance, he got very harsh. He kept saying heâs ânot a nutritionist,â and then eventually told me I was âhurting my baby,â being âselfish,â that I had âmental problems,â âbody dysmorphia,â and needed therapy.
At that point I started crying because of how he was talking to me, and he still kept going. My husband even stepped in and tried to soften the conversation.
Now I honestly donât know if Iâm overreacting because hormones/emotions are high right now⊠or if that was actually not okay bedside manner from a doctor?

No youâre definitely not overreacting at all. If it were me, Iâd 100% be looking for a new provider.

I would look into seeing another doctor. My doctor never even mentioned my weight once, of course they will encourage you to make healthy choices, but the other comments are totally unnecessary.

I would look for someone else if thatâs possible for you but def reporting him. Thats unprofessional and what he is NOT is a psychologist that can just diagnose or throw terms at you like body dysmorphia. Please donât let him get to you. And your husband should have shut that down way earlier

100% wouldâve reported him, he seems very unprofessional. On the other hand the joint pain and pressure is most likely from you gaining more weight so try doing light exercise or eating foods with less calories and more fiber/ protein should help. (Protein for muscle and fiber for the bathroom) depending on your craving you might need to ignore them if they are too unhealthy BUT just because you eat healthy doesnât mean your going to loose weight.

No. Your not overreacting. I will find some else. You deserve a better Dr.
