What is everyone’s thoughts and experiences with having the epidural as I’m looking into possibly having this, I’m due end of September and I’m starting to feel very anxious about my birth as it’s my first and don’t know what to expect.🩷

Honestly it helps a lot. I was shaking in pain with my first until I was given the epidural. Its something I didnt want but ended up getting willingly because I needed it

I just had my first and loved my epidural. For me, I liked that 1. It allowed me to feel more present in the experience after contractions felt too consuming, and 2. Unlike other pain management options the drugs do not get passed to the baby via your blood stream. *Other options are still safe for baby as recommended by your doctor, this was just a personal choice.* Only negative was being bed bound, but i was so tired by then I didnt want to move any more anyway lol

I had it with my first one after 24 hours of excruciating contractions during induction and it was the best thing ever. I was able to rest and get some energy before the pushing stage. The downside of it, was that I could not feel the contractions or anything at all while I was pushing, which made it more difficult for me. No epidural the second time around and the pushing stage was much more straightforward, as I could feel my own body. In conclusion, if I had to do it again, I would probably get epidural for the active labour part, but stop topping up right before it’s time to push

Didn’t get an epidural with my first, but I absolutely did with my second. It made it a much more positive experience for me and I had no issues with it.
We don’t plan on having more children, but if I were to give birth again I would definitely get another epidural.

Baby #2!??

Any other Feb mums constantly thinking about having a second? 😭

In my head, I’ve always planned to start trying again later this year around xmas, but honestly, I’m so scared..I still feel nowhere near ready. I’m exhausted enough with this one! 😅 is anyone planning to try around same time?

How on earth do people get through that first trimester while looking after a 2 year old lol

Is this normal for a doctor to talk like this?

Am I overreacting or would this interaction with my doctor upset you too? 😅

To give some context… I’ve honestly been avoiding the scale a little this pregnancy because it gives me anxiety.

Today I had an appointment and finally got weighed, and I got worried because I gained more than I thought I had. I asked my doctor if it was normal and if there was anything I could do or any recommendations he had.

At first I also asked him about some sciatic/joint pain and pressure I’ve been feeling, and he was already coming across kind of cold and dismissive. But when I asked about the weight gain, the conversation got really intense.

He basically told me “you know how to eat healthy,” and when I tried explaining that pregnancy has changed my body, hunger levels, cravings, etc., and that I was just looking for guidance/reassurance, he got very harsh. He kept saying he’s “not a nutritionist,” and then eventually told me I was “hurting my baby,” being “selfish,” that I had “mental problems,” “body dysmorphia,” and needed therapy.

At that point I started crying because of how he was talking to me, and he still kept going. My husband even stepped in and tried to soften the conversation.

Now I honestly don’t know if I’m overreacting because hormones/emotions are high right now… or if that was actually not okay bedside manner from a doctor?

High blood pressure

I just got diagnosed with pregnancy induced hypertension and been put on a double dose of meds; was planning on a birth centre birth;

triage at hospital said it should be okay but midwife is unsure I will qualify 😭

most annoying thing is I’ve been mentioning that my usually low blood pressure has been higher than normal and you could see it getting higher with every appointment but got told it’s not over the threshold; maybe if they listened it could’ve been managed earlier 😭

Has anyone qualified for the birth centre with blood pressure medication if it stabilised while on it?
