Days out with school

My child is starting school in September and at the information evening yesterday the teacher and headteacher were proudly telling us all how they love to take the class out to museums/woodlands/beaches on their mini bus. My immediate instinct was panic cos I would never put my son in a car without using a car seat and he will still only be 4-5 in September, this is too young to travel without a car seat?! To me this isn't the same as getting a bus. A bus makes frequent stops and doesn't really get over 30mph. A minibus could be flying down the motorway at 70mph.

Am I overthinking this and overreacting???

I'd like to hear other thoughts, thank you

You’re not overreacting. It’s your child and if that’s something that’s important to you then it isn’t overreacting. Have you had that discussion with them about it? Would they be willing to put him in a car seat if you provided one?

Most buses that are private hire for schools have seatbelts I’m pretty sure

The school may be happy for you to fit your car seat into the minibus for the trips they do, or to drive him yourself.

I would definitely be worried about this too, my daughter will be rear facing until she maxes out her car seat but then will definitely be in a high backed booster for all journeys.

I work in a school that takes regular trips out on our school minibus the seatbelts are adjusted to child height and there are always 1-2 adults in the back with them to help and monitor the children

The trips we take the kids on are really special and allows them to learn different skill sets but as a parent I completely understand why you might be nervous but would just share my experience x

Hi, primary teacher here! We have car seats for our younger children in the minibus and seating/seatbelts are adjust accordingly. As mentioned above we also have a staff member in the back to monitor and be on hand should they need it! We also have a rule on the ages and how far they can go, the older the get the further the trip can be xx

This is a Frequent topic of discussion in car seat safety groups. You might be best off looking there for what other parents have done in the past. Bump to booster is a lovely Facebook group, use the search function to find previous threads

Stopping weaning

I took baby to be weighed today, she’s 5 months and a week and put on weight so back to her centile. They were happy and I mentioned we had started weaning just porridge in the morning and a veg in the evening. She’s always had reflux and she was quite a bit sick with the veg. They suggested just doing the porridge each day instead as she might not be ready. I really thought she was ready. I work in childcare I know all the guidelines but I feel like I’ve failed so so much. She loved her food but I feel like I’ve failed her.

When to start baby sensory?

When did you all start baby sensory classes? My baby is nearly 8 weeks, but unsure if he’ll fully benefit from it yet?

Urgent- Toddler behaviour specialist - anyone hired one / know someone that has?

Has anyone ever hired one of these toddler behaviour management specialists who come to stay for a few days to help you better learnt to manage tricky toddler issues you’re struggling with.

It’s not cheap. But I’m a solo parent no extended family and feel I’m so in the dark with the tantrums I’m both confusing my daughter and a third of the time loosing my patience. It’s got really bad my lack of feeling I can’t do this with no guidance I’m dreading spending time with her 🤦🏼‍♀️

She’s super smart (smarter than I ever was) but I don’t have the skills, the support network. The help. And I’m reaching breaking point. Starting to feel like if I don’t get some outsider help I’ll damage our relationship and these are the crucial years. I need it for both myself and her.

Has anyone used one of these professionals, knows someone that has?

Before I use our only holiday fund to book one I’ve spoken to. (They’re not cheap 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️). Can anyone help shed some or any light in if this is a waste of money or it helped someone you know who did this?
