SMP / UC
Does anyone know if im able to claim UC whilst earning SMP. My Contract is due to end in November by this point ill be on SMP Only. But im entitled to still claim until January which is my qualifying period. I technically won’t be employed as my employment ends in Nov but will still have SMP.
If so, does anyone know how nuch approximately? Am I able to find work up to a certain amount of hours & still claim UC?
Ive never been unemployed and first baby so no idea what support is actually available

you can earn up to about 400/700 depending if you're claiming housing benefit as well before you don't get paid uc. I'm on maternity allowance currently of about 182 a week so I'm not eligible for any uc and I think it's the same for pretty much everyone on maternity leave unfortunately (obviously people can feel free to correct me if I'm missing something haha). I'm not sure how it works being unemployed but I assume they'd probably count your SMP as income and if it's over the threshold I don't think you'd be able to get any
UC is means tested which means your partners income will be taken into account. Easiest way to check is yo check eligibility on the gov website. Xx
I’m sure you can but what you get will depend if you’re in a single person household. If your partner (assuming you have one or have one living with you) is earning over the threshold I don’t think you’ll be entitled to anything
