Feeding on demand

Nicu mum here šŸ‘‹šŸ» my little one is nearly 4months and we’ve been doing 3 hour feeds until last week and we moved to 4 hour feeds for two days. Specialist said our boy was doing great so told us to move to demand feeding… now his not drinking as much and it doesn’t seem enough in mls as we have to track everything. We are now trying different bottles. He was doing part puramino and part expressed breast milk and they told us to go full expressed breastmilk.
Has anyone else had similar and can offer advice? I’m trying not to stress but I can’t help it 😩😩 his sometimes going less than two hours between feeds as we can’t get him to drink enough.

Breastfed babies typically feed more often in the day and potentially for shorter times/amounts so that kart is pretty typical, and dthe amount of breastmilk consumed at each sitting can vary as it's based on their needs and demand at the time. Formula makes them feel fuller for longer which is why their were longerbstretches before switching to breastmilk only. If you can, try to look at the whole day and week rather than each feed, if the overall amounts are still good and they are gaining weight then that is a good sign.

Still, if you are concerned do talk it through with your HV who will be able to best advise and reassure based on your situation 😊

Thank you! I Am hoping to get him weighed Friday, we are in talks with kings hospital due to ongoing health issue and they are guiding us through and they are all about numbers so thought it would be nice to hear from parents. He was averaging between 600/700mls formula/expressed breast milk and now it’s between 500mls/600mls but sometimes he does go on the breast, but as we don’t do it all the time they are unsure how efficient he is on the breastšŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø. Feels like we are just going round in circles….

How are we taking showers?

When he was little, I used to just put the bouncer in the bathroom and I would shower while I was watching him. That’s something I’m not able to do anymore because he became to mobile for the bouncer and also for his swing so I had to get rid of them he tries to escape them by crawling, or he simply starts yelling cs he doesn’t like them. How are we taking showers then?
the other day I put him in his highchair with a couple of toys, but he got bored of it really quickly and I ended up taking a three minute shower. I was also thinking I could put him on his crib with a couple of toys since I can just bring the monitor in the shower with me. I’m just not sure if he’ll like that. Has anybody tried this? Any other ideas?

Epidurals

Hello - expecting FTM, I’d really like to hear people’s opinions on epidurals who have had one previously please and their experiences (good or not so good) - no horror stories though please 🄲 I have done a LOT of research myself but would really like to get some first hand experiences, I’m aware of the risks & it’s not for everyone but I’d love to hear if people enjoyed having one and if not, why not 😊 thank you!!!

Recovery

When I found out I was pregnant I quit all drugs and alcohol smoking everything but now it’s like all I want to do but I know I can’t because the baby’s more important. I’ve only just turned 20 and I’m 26 weeks pregnant.

9 days pp and exclusively breastfeeding help 🄲

I am a ftm exclusively breastfeeding my 9 day old baby. I've been having a couple struggles/'problems'. To keep this post somewhat short I'll make bullet points. I'm just looking for any advice or similar situations and what you did?
ā— when trying to latch him he waves about and shoves his hands in his face and mouth stopping me from getting anywhere near his mouth and then gets frustrated he's not got a boob in his mouth (goes on for 5 to 10 mins sometimes and he gets really frustrated, and between juggling him and my boob I can't hold his hands out the way)
ā— the first 5 days of latching were amazing and had no problems but now he will fuss and struggle to latch and when he finally does he either falls asleep super quick (we tickle him, cold wet wipe and strip him down and he still just falls asleep), he does dream feed but these are usually super short and I feel like its not enough for him or he pops off within the first minute or two and cries because he's not got the boob in his mouth and then struggles to get latched, then pops off again when he does manage. It's a vicious cycle.
ā— doesn't wake up for feeds day and night time. I'm having to wake him up if he's asleep. Gives hunger cues when he's awake.
ā— over the last few days he will only take 1 boob for 10 mins, sometimes this satisfies him till 3 hours later (which is when I wake and feed him if he's asleep, if hes awake he'll start showing hes hungry by then) but then sometimes he's hungry again very soon after. I just worry he's not getting enough or that i can't figure out when it's comfort or milk he wants.
I feel clueless and getting really emotional over this whole situation because I know we're both trying so hard I can see that he is I just can't get it figured out. I know this is all probably very trivial but it's really getting to me šŸ™ƒ

Comment childminder made

My little girl is 1 in a few days. Shes been with the childminder for a month. When I picked her up yesterday she said ā€˜my goodness I’ve never know a baby with such a temper’ took me by surprise. My girl does shout and go when she doesn’t want to do something/put into pram, put down etc. but I thought it’s normal for her age.
Then she went on to say ā€˜I put her in the high chair and she was shouting and moaning, my friend walked past and said my goodness you have the patience of a saint’
The more I think about it, the more I think that was really rude
