Epidurals

Hello - expecting FTM, I’d really like to hear people’s opinions on epidurals who have had one previously please and their experiences (good or not so good) - no horror stories though please 🥲 I have done a LOT of research myself but would really like to get some first hand experiences, I’m aware of the risks & it’s not for everyone but I’d love to hear if people enjoyed having one and if not, why not 😊 thank you!!!

I loved mine 😂 no problems or side effects, and the pain went away almost immediately. The guy who inserted it was weirdly proud of his work and really wanted my reluctant husband to see, but they were all super nice and talked me through the procedure. I did end up having an emergency c section, so can’t speak from a vaginal birth experience, but I’m so glad I got one to be honest to help me through the hours before. I was exhausted and allowed me to get some sleep.

It was very much needed for me. By the time my water broke I’d already been having contractions for 12 hours, and they were only getting worse but I wasn’t close to being fully dilated so I still had a ways to go and desperately needed relief in order to sleep.
I remember feeling pain while pushing though, so I can’t confirm if it was turned off, wore off/didnt fully work or what.

Had mine and it was the best, if you’re not a big fan of pain this I highly recommend it. I plan to use for all my next births. I had tears of happiness when the epidural kicked in.

I was suprised by my epidural. Tbf I think I was in transition when I got it anyway but once it was placed the pain went. I was still able to walk and move around too. Whilst we waited I asked for a peanut ball and lay on my side keeping my pelvis moving and was fully dilated when we did a VE 2hrs later.

Ive had one with (my first) one without, both within the last 2 years, epidural is great but has its risks as you said. I chose to do my second with gas and air only and I felt so much more control. Being able to feel my body pushing itself and not having to be coached to push is amazing!
I would say you need to do more prep before hand without an epidural.. practice your breath work, use ice in your hands to see how you can handle pain and what your body’s reactions are.. here to chat if you have any questions 🖤 x

When i first had the epidural it was
amazing, loved it as i was in no pain when induced on the hormone drip, later on however it did interfere with pushing & i couldn’t feel the need to push which did cause complications, but that doesn’t mean that’s the same or will happen to everyone x

Had one with my first and it was amazing! I had a 52 hour labour with 18hours of those being active labour. I was able to sleep for a bit and rest which was needed. It did start to fail on one side closer to delivery but when it did work it was amazing.
Just had my second baby and by the time they were able to do it it was too close to pushing that I didn't feel any effects of it.
Hardest part was purely trying to stay still whilst they place it. Both times I found bracing myself on my partner with my head in his chest whilst he held the gas and air for me really helped.

Also wanted to add that when I had it with my first I woke up from a nap and needed to go to the toilet and ended up falling over as my legs had gone numb 😅 so if they suggest a catheter might be an option

Loved mine only felt the contractions from the hormone drip, didn’t feel him come out of me at all x

My first one was amazing. Had it at 6cms and it just helped me get some rest. My second, they put the needle in but it never worked and since then have awful back pain (it ended in an emergency CS anyway so then went to a spinal block) x

Owlet sock critical alarm

Daughter was in bed with me last night as she is teething. Her owlet sock sounded the critical alarm at 3:30 in the morning. I panicked and grabbed my daughter but she was completely fine and started giggling. When I checked the app this morning it showed that I had an alert but when I looked at her stats for 3:30 in the morning it doesn’t even show a drop in oxygen. Has anyone ever got false critical alarms? Should I go to the GP to have her checked?

Hallucinating or no?

Ok so it's 10pm at night. 2 people in bed, blue and white. White is usually asleep by 9:30 but goes to take a shower at 10.

Blue, who is and was awake hears moaning (and heavy breathing) and jokes that they could have helped (white get off). The text chain in the comments follows.

Blue then says they must be hallucinating and to ignore them. White doesn't respond.

Bkue apologises imfor causing a problem, the next morning. White says "it's ok".

Do we think Blue was hallucinating? Or was White lying?

Please, please, please help.

Breastfeeding issues & guilt

My baby was born on 21st June after a lengthy induction & a horribly traumatic time at the hospital. I was in a really bad place physically & mentally & feel like the first week completely passed by in a blur. I only just feel like we are starting to bond. I was hoping to exclusively breastfeed but it's just not happening. We have seen a lactation consultant which was helpful & we will be booking a follow up.

Am I being too anxious?

For context I live with my parents.
My father just run a bath (downstairs bathroom) and has left it to go have a lie down instead. He does this often and will top it up with hot water when he decides he wants to go in.
He turns the boiler up very high to run the bath and I can’t touch the water myself without it burning my hand.
Bathtub is full as high as it can go and piping hot. I have a 3 year old autistic child who loves water and will go jump into it at any opportunity.
Am I crazy for at least wanting a door to be shut separating the living area from the bathroom? Of course I watch my child all the time but they like to go in the kitchen to see my mother and could easily pass straight through and into the bathroom without anyone realising
